Just saw what's probably the dumbest way to handle adding an image description to something and I just. Okay so
There's bad ways to do IDs. Small text is one way, because it's not accessible (people with vision issues who don't use screen readers can't read small text). Putting them under a readmore link is also inaccessible (screen readers often don't interpret the link correctly, readmore links break very easily). Alt text is a great option for people with screen readers, but for people who need IDs who don't use screen readers, it's also not always accessible (for example, someone who magnifies text to read it may click on the alt text box, only for the alt text to be cut off and unscrollable), so for text-heavy images it's not necessarily the best option but at least better than nothing
But this post. It had. A screenshot of a tweet. No alt text, ID, nothing. And then.
Below a readmore.
It had.
The same screenshot.
This time WITH alt text
I'm just. I'm baffled. This baffles me. The reason people post IDs under readmores to begin with is to shorten posts (this is not a good reason, never put an ID under a readmore). This doesn't shorten anything. If you're only going to use alt text that doesn't add to the post length at all! Keep it with the original image! You're just making more work for yourself! For! No! Reason!
I'm not gonna put the person on blast for it. Maybe if I can get on a computer later I'll track down the post and make a proper description for it. In the meantime I remain utterly flummoxed
