welcome to screen-reader-dinner! this is our blog for image descriptions, plain text, and transcriptions.

this blog does take requests and feedback. we can't promise every request will be done, but we'll still try to answer asks and mentions.

if we make a typo or some other error, send us an ask or comment. if you can think of additional information to our descriptions, feel free to reblog your own version.

moderator stuff:

mod's name is sol. please use our name in place of 3rd person pronouns (ex: he or xe)

we're plural, disabled, and screen-reader users! we use ours because we're cognitively disabled and dyslexic.

For image descriptions, is it important to put end description?? I don't put it for my own and I know it could be confusing if there's text afterwards. But in general, is it important or is it just a personal preference to put?

It's pretty much like you said, as far as I know - it could be a bit confusing without, but otherwise it's just personal preference

if you make a post without image description, and someone else describes images in reblogs, please copy their description into your original post! it is way more accessible when ID is in the original post and not in reblogs when people have to scroll down for it or even search it in the reblogs.

i see a lot of posts described in reblogs which is better than completely undescribed posts, but it still an accessibility issue. many people reblog undescribed version, and it’s difficult for people who need IDs to scroll down and look for the ID that may even not be there.

so please add ID into your own post if someone makes it.

hahaha thank you for telling me! I’ll edit the description. So I went to look it up. It turns out the M. Oizo is the stage name of French filmmaker and musician Quentin Dupieux, and the plush toy is actually a puppet called Flat Eric!

At least that’s what the description of this music video says. [linked is a music video for the song Flat Beat by Mr. Oizo]

ahh no worries! I always try to thank people who describe images. I am not blind so maybe thats presumptuous of me. But I know it’s not easy to describe images so I try to encourage the people on this app who make the effort 🙏🏿 thanks again

I just saw one of your video descriptions, and i was wondering if you knew whether tumblr has the option for video subtitles that are actually readable by accesibility devices / TalkBack on the phone?

I don't know. It's hard for me to say because my computer can't even read the "Alt" things that I know Tumblr does in the bottom-left corner of images that users have prepared that way. (That's why all of my image and video descriptions are inline text).

This disability pride month, remember! Image descriptions are accessability tools, not something anyone owns as property!

You don't need permission to copy and paste an image description into your original post or a reblog!

If you spend a long time searching for an image description in a reblog chain, copy and paste it into a new reblog entirely so that it'll show up sooner in the notes! :)
