Fab Five Fashion Faves: Local Brands to Watch (August 2012)
In June, we debuted our Fab Five Fashion Faves: Local Brands to Watch (June 2012) series and this month we have 5 local DC brands you absolutely should know about.
Brand: A N N A (www.anna-bags.com)
Designer: Jayne Orthwein
Details: A N N A is a local DC area handbag line located in Gaithersburg, MD. A N N A imports their leather from France, have it woven in Italy, and manufactured in NYC. In honor of Jayne's daughter Anna - who died with a brain aneurysm five years ago at age 19 - Jayne has focused her energy on creating beautiful designs that are, like Anna, genuine, unique and graceful. The company plans to use a percentage of profits to empower women through funding educational scholarships.
Brand: HIPPIE CHIC (http://www.duodc.com/hippie-chic.html)
Designer: Kyle Barber
Details: This candy-colored jewelry line provides brightly beaded wonders of every size and length. Kylie Barber co-owner of local DC boutique Duo started Hippie Chic because "she got sick of seeing the same jewelry on all of her friends."
Brand: TYSNDYMA (http://www.tsyndyma.com/)
Designer: Tsyndyma Kroujilov
Details: Tsyndyma Designs is a contemporary women’s wear line that includes coats, dresses, pants, and blouses. Designer Tysnyma Kroujilov is a DC transplant by way of Siberia and Russia. Her brand philosophy is to “to make women younger and have style to be happy.”
Brand: Alberto Parada: Sustainable Fine Jewelry (http://albertoparada.com/)
Designer: Alberto Parada
Details: Alberto Parada is Washingtonian with South American roots. In 2007, he launched his line of sustainable fine jewelry and has gained numerous eco / ethical awards and recognition. What we love about Alberto's pieces is that the materials do not hinder the architectural designs and quality of his jewelry.
Brand: Accoutre (http://accoutre.me/)
Designers: Eliot Payne & Ayo
Details: So clearly we are a little late in finding out about this much-buzzed about brand Accoutre. But as they say, better late than never! We love the line's playful, colorful, yet bold take on bowties and its versatility for both men and women.
