Happy birthday to the wonderful @achievementtooth!
I drew our Overwatch mains with a cake. Unfortunately you can’t eat this cake but I hope you have a great day with many sweets.
I’ve seen it happen. She says things like this on the shared chat and cheers people up after a game has ended.
Inspired by @newfiegranny who’s too pure, @achievementtooth as an awesome McCree and me as Hanzo.
With those stabby starters, number 17 just makes me think of Michael. Like "really, dude, what the fuck, why would you even think that's scary in the first place? The steak knives were easier to access and would've been a lot better for this!"
Oh, gosh, I love it. Like, he’s not even in this house to mess with the owners or anything, he’s just trying to hide out in the kitchen from the cops searching for him. So, he did what any self-respecting member of the FAHC would do in such a situation: he started making a sandwich.
He hadn’t exactly expected to turn from putting up the jam to see a woman brandishing the knife(still with traces of jam) at him. He didn’t even think about it, he just kind of blurted it out.
“What? Am I supposed to be afraid of a bread knife? It’s not even that sharp! Fuck, there’s a whole goddamn rack of steak knives right over there, one of those would have been, like, ten times better to threaten me with! I mean, honestly, I don’t get it, it shouldn’t matter how sleepy you are, that’s just common sense!”
He paused to take a big bite of the sandwich, glancing out the window at the receding sound of a police helicopter before continuing with a full mouth. “Ok, look, I’m not gonna steal anything or do anything bad or whatever. Just put the knife down and go back to bed, ok? I’ll wash it before I leave, I promise. And I’m about to leave, too. Come on, hand it over…” He held out the non-sandwich hand, taking another bite as he waited for it.
The woman watched him for a moment before slowly lowering the knife into his hand and backing out of the room. Michael shook his head as he set the sandwich down to quickly wash off the knife and toss it in the dish drainer. Looking out the windows to check for cops, and seeing none, he grabbed his sandwich again and left the way he came up, mentally writing a note to send a bundle of cash to this address to recoup her for that broken door…
Ok, this was a lot of fun, I gotta admit! Thanks for the prompt!
So far, the plan was going swimmingly. The FAHC didn’t usually do a job like this, preferring something much more showy, like a few good explosions, as opposed to poisoning someone. But, Geoff said this would be a much better way to prove their effectiveness against the potential new police commissioner who seemed intent on burning the crew out of “his” city.
Geoff still chuckled at that. “His city”, as though he didn’t stay so high above it all that he barely even knew it. If anything, this was Geoff’s city. He’d been the one who grew up among both its high class and its refuse, falling through the ranks that he’d later climb to the top of. He knew this city’s secrets as well as he knew its streets, both like the back of his hand.
So, when this new upstart who was gunning for the top dog spot in the LSPD made his campaign promises that he’d remove the Fakes, and boasted that they could never get to him through his private security force, Geoff knew he had to take an alternate tack. Rather than simply blow the fresh blood away, they’d be a little more subtle, take him out a little quietly, but be sure to make it known who did the dirty deed.
That’s how the crew found themselves at this fundraising gala, infiltrating the high muckity-mucks whose money this fellow was hoping to con into his own pocket. Geoff stood off to one side of the grand ballroom, sipping at his drink as he watched the man mingle with and bullshit the bejeweled upper class. Geoff knew the truth about most of them and their affairs, both fiscal and extra-marital. He wondered if this guy would be nearly so accepting of their money if he knew how they got so much of it.
Lifting his drink to his mouth, he muttered into his comm. “How we looking, folks?” He asked, scanning the room to spot those of his crew in it.
Gavin sat outside in a van, keeping track of everything through a patch into the security system. Michael and Jeremy were doing some mingling of their own in the crowd, albeit as waiters, making a show of bustling empty plates from here to there, and back again. Ryan was in the kitchen, proving surprisingly just adept with the tools found in there as with any weapon in his arsenal. And Jack, dressed positively resplendently, was buddying up to one of the fellows with some particularly juicy secrets. Might as well get as much as they can out of the night, after all.
“All clear out here, and plenty boring. Why can’t I have gone in there with you guys, huh?” Gavin whined across the comms.“Because then, you’d be whining about wanting to be back out in your van, duh!” Jeremy chuckled. “Trust me, you’d be bored as hell if you were stuck shuffling shit back and forth like me and Michael are doing.”
“Besides, you know that’s where you do your best work.” Jack whispered. Geoff saw her leaning away from her target so she could talk. “And all good here, boss.”
There was a long stretch of silence over the comms.
“Ryan?” Geoff asked, suddenly worried. “How are we looking, man?”
Another pause.
“Ok, so, um…” Ryan’s voice came hesitantly through the earpiece. “Just to let you know, I may, or may have not, poisoned the right glass. I mean, it’s definitely going to the right table, but… Sorry.”
A long sigh filled the comms. “Ryan…” Geoff groaned, pinching his nose. “You do realize we own literally everyone else at that table, right? And that we can’t really afford to lose any of them?”“Yeah, yeah, I know…” Ryan said, audibly embarrassed. “Look, there’s a lot of stuff to keep track of back here, I kinda took the place of the head chef, and nobody else can really handle everything, so it kinda got lost in the shuffle.”
“Great, just fuckin’ great, Rye!” Michael whisper-shouted. “So, now what? We hope he manages to find the right glass and get offed, or what?”
Geoff shook his head, watching as a waiter took a tray of drinks to the head table. In his mind’s eye, he could practically see one of them bubbling and smoking with poison. “No, we can’t fucking risk it, I’ve got too much cash sunk into those assholes. Plan B, guys, let’s break out the party poppers.” As he spoke, Geoff set his drink down and reach under his arms, pulling out a twin set of heavy pistols.
Michael’s grin was audible as he upturned a cart on the other side of the ballroom, pulling out a heavy machine gun. “Aw, fuck yeah, about time this place got lit up!”
As the shots rang out, bullets impacting the ceiling, Geoff mentally shrugged. If he was honest, he hadn’t really expected this to go off as planned. After all, “subtle” wasn’t really in the Fake’s playbook.
For Voxan: 1, 6, 7, 9, 14, 18, 23, 25. For Taliesin: 4, 7, 8, 11, 15, 18, 21, 25. And for Shadow: 3, 5, 6, 16, 17, 18, 25. You get all the questions.
I deserve all these.
Voxan
1: What is this character’s alignment?Chaotic Neutral, I think. Hard to tell when your DM doesn’t really bother with that aspect.
6: What would your character like (or have liked) to do with their life?Just be a nerdy science boy, pretty much.
7: Who is your character’s best friend?Probably his animal companion, the pseudodraogn, Temeraire. In terms of sentient beings... Maybe Besai? He kinda alienated Varis, Eden’s become some kind of ethereal conceptual entity, and let’s not even get into Basil or Orilana...
9: Who has, for better or worse, had the most impact on your character’s life? For better, probably Eden, for being the first person he met in his adult life that he felt something for(cliche though that may be). For worse, Tarkan Snik, the one who arrested and killed his family and forced him into the rebel life.
14: What is this character’s relationship with religion or the church?Ambivalent, at best. He acknowledges the gods and what they do for the world, but he doesn’t particularly have enough of a vested interest to actually conduct any worship of them.
18: What is the character’s favorite Pokémon?Charizard!
23: If your character could play any part in a drama, stage production, or musical, what part would they play?Honestly, probably lighting and/or sound technician. He wouldn’t really try and audition for anything unless pushed for it.
25: What does this character mean to you?Well, he was my first proper D&D character, so there’s always gonna be a soft spot in my heart for him. Still sad I didn’t get to play him to level 20, but then again, it was my own damn fault he didn’t survive, so...
Taliesin
4: Describe your character using a song title.God’s Gonna Cut You Down
7: Who is your character’s best friend?I mean, tbh, he wasn’t ever exactly in the business of making friends, even before or after the party.
8: Who is your character’s worst enemy?Again, he doesn’t really deal in that necessarily. I can’t think of anyone in particular, leastwise not one that’s survived...
11: What crime is this character most likely to be convicted of?I dunno, maybe something to do with disseminating unrightfully restricted information?
15: Would this character ever make a deal with a devil or dark spirit?I mean, historically, he did for a time, albeit unwillingly, and he broke with it as soon as he could. ~I’m still kicking myself over how I uncursed that thrice-damned sword…~
18: What is the character’s favorite Pokémon?Maybe Bisharp?
21: Do you ship your character with any other characters? (This includes characters from other universes and canons)Not really. Never really felt he had any real inklings in that direction.
25: What does this character mean to you?Honestly? Not a whole lot. I basically only went Paladin with this idea of team comp, and only when Voxan bought the farm. Being a tank was pretty nice, but I just never really got quite into him when it came to the roleplaying part. Honestly, kinda sad, he deserved better than I treated him.
Shadow
3: Summarize your character’s backstory with no more than three sentences.Already answered!
5: Are there any story arcs you would like this character to explore?Well, he’s got a brother, somewhere out there in the planes… Nothing much aside from that, he’s still too new, I think...
6: What would your character like (or have liked) to do with their life?Get enough regular money to not have to worry about it for him and his brother, so that would be fun to see something happen with...
16: Emotion or Logic? He’ll try and stick with logic, but he has been known to let emotion rule for a time.
17: Soup or Salad?Soup. Who wants to eat leaves?
18: What is the character’s favorite Pokémon?Greninja, probably.
25: What does this character mean to you?I’m not sure yet, he’s still a bit new. Finally getting to play a Rogue, though, so very excited about that!
