13, 27, 33, 39, and 48! OvO
13. Do you have any troublemaker OCs?
Mo is a HUGE troublemaker! She has a “rebellious for the sake of being rebellious” streak a mile wide, even well into adulthood. Actual Brat Mololuwa Fatade at your service.
Honorable mentions for Mario, Raine, Pulse, Lirpa, and CC, who are all kind of troublemakers in their own ways.
27. Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song?
All of my characters have been influenced by music (they all have playlists, and several have theme songs of sorts), but very few were initially inspired by a specific song.
Aqui’s earliest incarnation (back when I was like 14) was inspired a lot by Face Down, though that song doesn’t necessarily fit her story anymore.
Technically Pulse was inspired by Pretty Rave Girl back when she was my high school boyfriend’s character (I inherited all our shared characters when we broke up), but I’ve worked very hard at detaching her from those origins because I’m kind of grossed out by the objectification in that song. Pulse is hot as heck and she knows it (her appearance is super important to her), but she doesn’t need or even want random boys to tell her that.
39. Introduce any character you want
Here, have some sloppy bullet point notes about CC, because I pretty much told itsubun her enTIRE LIFE STORY the other night:
First of all, this is CC in case you want a visual.
CW for dugs/alcohol, strongly implied sexual abuse, and police violence/murder for the following series of bullet points:
She immigrated from the Dominican Republic when she was very little (~4 years old) and has been living in Providence, RI ever since
She’s bilingual, but speaks English better than Spanish
She got removed from her abusive home and put in an... also-abusive foster home in 8th grade
In 9th grade she pretty much just decided “Welp, this system is crap. I’m out,” and ran away. She proceeded to couch-surf with a bunch of college-age anarchist-punks (most notably her at-the-time boyfriend, Greg, who’s like 5 years older than her) for the next 3 years.
She kind of halfheartedly/when she felt like it attended school for the rest of 9th grade, but didn’t return at all for 10th grade.
A lot of really gross things happened to her during her couch-surfing years, including a lot of spiked/drugged drinks (she has a really big beef with drugs/alcohol as a result)
She also has a big beef with guns/knives/weapons in general, but will not hesitate to get into a fist fight with anyone treating little kids/young women badly (she has broken many white boy noses)
When she’s 17, she breaks up with Greg and removes herself from the the anarchopunk community because she’s beginning to realize how creepy and predatory her social circle is... but as a result, she becomes Really and Truly On-the-Streets Homeless
She’s still anarchist as heck, but she’s super grossed out by the “middle class white boys who want to rebel” aspect of the anarchist movement, so she stears clear of the actual community after breaking up with Greg
Around that time, she also befriends an older black man who frequents the same bus route as her-- she learns that his name is Ed and he used to be a police officer before his schizophrenia got bad, but now he works at a grocery store. She likes him a lot but keeps him at arm’s length because she doesn’t really trust adults, much less ex police officers. He kind of helps her survive after her couch-surfing network disappears, though.
Not long after she becomes Officially Homeless, CC ends up taking in a little girl, Sofía, after her dad is killed by the police over what should have been a minor drug charge. Of course, since CC doesn’t trust the authorities as far as she can throw them (especially not once she discovers Sofía is an undocumented immigrant with no surviving family anywhere in the US), she decides to take things into her own hands and just bring Sofía along with her. In CC’s eyes, homelessness is always more acceptable than being at the mercy of corrupt authorities.
Did I mention that CC loves kids? Because she does. She friggin’ LOVES kids.
So now she’s a homeless 18-year-old whose only friends/chosen family are a disabled ex police officer and a very small, very traumatized, very hyperactive child
She’s also really into tattoos. But like... the sketchy DIY kind.
She’s a good kid, even if she’s a GIANT MESS.
There’s more to her story, of course, but that’s kind of where she’s at as of the story I’m currently planning/writing.
48. OC who is a perfect cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure
ZEE. Zee is such a cinnamon roll. He’s such an idealistic little science nerd who just wants to make the world a better place!
But let’s be real, I have a lot of cinnamon roll characters. I have to work really hard to make characters that aren;t cinnamon rolls, because cinnamon roll seems to be my default setting. Aqui, Sebastián, and Lirpa are especially cinnamon roll-y. Aqui’s little brother Petey is kind of a gigantic cinnamon roll, as well, even though he’s a very minor character. His goal in life is literally just to own a kosher bakery.
