Dear Aleteia, I have read your story "The Last Snoggletog" and I can't get enough of it. I mean the story keeps me hanging and makes me a little bit crazy thinking when is the next part and what will happen.Anyway, when are you going to post "The Phantom of the Archipelago", the sequel of the Phabtom of the Arena if I got it right? Awwww, thank you! I’m so happy you enjoyed that one-shot and that it left you wanting more! That’s a huge compliment and also what I hoped to achieve with it, along with providing a bit of a glance into post-Phantom life! 

My plans for The Phantom of the Archipelago are as follows; this year, I will be pretty busy with university (several projects and a master thesis on the horizon), so I won’t be able to write every week as I did with Phantom 1. However, I still want to be able to update consistently and not have it be one of those stories where the updates come sporadically. 

Hence, I have separated the story into 7 acts (not equal length, but they cover a specific story arc) and will only start publishing one act in bi-weekly updates when I’ve completely finished it, which will then give me time to work on writing the next act and only take a small hiatus if I don’t make it in time. 

Act 1 will span the first 10-11 chapters and is made up of about 18 scenes, of which I have written a draft for 9 already. Those 9 scenes make up 22.5k words so I’m guessing the entirety of act 1 will come in at about 40k words!

I hope to be able to finish writing it in January and February, which would mean publishing starts in March at the latest. But I’ll keep you guys updated on here if I have more news!

I just really want to treat this carefully because I wouldn’t want to start this story without properly dedicating myself to it, because it’s just so important to me

I have three questions: 1.I was just wondering, when is the next update of your story 'A Decade To Find You'? I'm so excited about it!I know you are busy and all. I'm just curious. 2.Though you POTA 2 is currently WIP, are you planning on writing a trilogy for the series? 3.And if you are going to write another HTTYD fanfiction with another genre, what would it be? I hope to update A Decade To Find You this weekend, but it depends on how much writing I get done in the following days. If not, it’ll be the weekend after that at the latest. I’m very glad to hear you’re excited for it! :D So am I ^^

2. Though you POTA 2 is currently WIP, are you planning on writing a trilogy for the series?

Hahaha, all good things come in threes, right? 

I did once talk about the Phantomverse becoming a trilogy, which would include a prequel about Hiccup’s time in Constantinople. To explore his relationship with Alexander, his captivity and how his mentality twisted from mostly Canon!Hiccup to becoming Phantom!Hiccup. 

Currently, I think the odds of me writing that are quite low. It would be a long story, featuring only OC characters alongside Hiccup and Toothless. I therefore don’t think there’d be that much interest in it, and it’s ended up pretty low on my priority list as a result. Especially because I don’t have loads of time to write. 

The Phantom of the Archipelago comes first in the Phantomverse. After that one is done (and Gods, it’s a big one, it might even become larger than the original Phantom), I think I’d be more likely to write short stories within the Phantomverse. Either about characters other than Hiccstrid (Hamish comes to mind), or stories that take place years after the events of The Phantom of the Archipelago. I have quite some ideas for that I am really fond of ^^ 

I’m very happy you seem to like the idea of a trilogy though!

3.And if you are going to write another HTTYD fanfiction with another genre, what would it be?

Now that’s a difficult question... If we take genre to mean outside of the Phantomverse, then I have many many other AUs still on the shelf/halfway completed. If we are really talking genre, I would say Phantom falls within the romance/drama category. Almost all of my ideas fall into that category, because I’m just the most interested in it. I love exploring human emotions and complicated relationships, and that quickly veers into drama. Romance also implicates that. It’s just so satisfying to make two people grow towards each other and fall in love (it’s why I love Enemies-To-Lovers in particular). 

Looking more at one-shots though I have definitely done stuff that isn’t romance. Even though it’s not long, I am still quite fond of ficlets like Proving Your Worth, which features a heart-to-heart between Spitelout and Snotlout, Do You Want To Train A Dragon? and Chasing the Western Wind, which are mostly about Zephyr and her relationship with her father. I especially loved writing that second one.

On the other side of the spectrum there’s the start of No Good Deed Goes Unpunished, which I would put in the ‘whump’ category. There’s Hiccstrid in there, but in the two chapters written so far, and what I had planned next, their relationship is more context than the main force driving the story. 

I could definitely see myself writing more stuff like that; exploring non-romantic relationships between other characters (Phantom already does a lot of that with the Hiccup-Stoick interactions) or going towards darker stories...

Comedy/crack fics is something I’d also still like to try my hand on but that’s such a difficult genre to pull off. Could be a challenge though!

@aleteia-ff I love your story "The Phantom of the Arena" so much. I can't even sleep when you won't update it in the supposed date. I know that the last chapter will be out next week(or so) and I was just thinking if: are going to make a sequel for the story? It's so good and I can't have enough of it! P.S You're awesome and I like your fics. Love, ACNHHH

Awww, I’m sorry I’ve been so irregular in updating lately then! I try to be more regular, but... Life finds a way, I suppose. 

Could I make a sequel? Yes, definitely. After the last chapter has been published I think it’ll be very clear what it would be about, as there are some things that don’t have to be explored for Phantom to end, but which could be and which would make for an interesting story. A story I’ve already written partial outlines of, a story that’s already taking shape in my head.

But will I write a sequel? I don’t know yet. I don’t want to make empty promises, and while I love to write, absolutely, it also takes a lot of time. And I want to make sure I can deliver, and that I still enjoy doing so. And I’m afraid that that might not be the case... 

I absolutely, thoroughly love Phantom, and its universe, but I also need to take into account my studies (which are a lot busier now than they used to be), other hobbies, friends, family, and later this academic year, an internship which will hopefully lead to a job. And the scary thought is that with all that horizon, I simply might not find the time to deliver a story as vast as Phantom again - and its sequel would be of the same scale. 

It breaks my heart a little bit, to be honest, and I’m sorry this reply turned a bit gloomy! What I do know is that even if I don’t manage to actually write a sequel, I still have a lot of post-Phantom headcanons that I’d love to share with you guys regardless! And that nothing will ever take away my love for this story :)
