Hi ACNHHH here! I'm Asta or that's one of my nicknames. Probably the one I am using as a codename in our little group. I am a college freshman and an honor student. A little bit geeky and nerdy, too. I have friends, but not too much, just the right amount. I think maybe because I am a little bit of a loner myself. Ask my friends about that especially @uriecstatic. Sometimes, other people call me weird, but that's a bit ironic, for some of the are much weirder than myself. But, I guess it is much better to be different(in a good way) ,right? I like to check new things,write, read, study, invent, eat and many more. I have many hobbies but it doesn't really involve much physical activity. Lastly, I am a Certified Dragonite( HTTYD fandom name) and a certified Hiccstrid Shipper.:-), Titans fan, Coai shipper and Proud PLayer(Project Loki)

Headcanon that after Camicazi’s disappearance in book 8 Bertha became very overprotective and easily stressed when her daughter disappears for too long (it began taking root on book three but she shoved it at the back of her mind… also another headcanon is that before she disappeared they had a fight… which made the whole ordeal worse) .. and Camicazi is still getting used to the transition from being able to go anywhere without much of a fuss to her mom needing to know where she was headed and what she was doing. And also, Camicazi has a curfew now (which is a generous 12 hours Bertha’s not THAT stingy /silly) GUHHH THIS IS JUST MELTING MY HEART THATS HER FKN BABY MAN 😭😭😭

'friend' not 'friends'?? Am I reading too much into this or is Fishlegs just getting nerfed for this whole Hiccup and Camicazi plotline like hello bring back my boy. Also the way he was just completely useless in doom of the darkwing and didn't really do much to help that is NOT the Fishlegs I know and love. (Not that I'm not happy that Camicazi is getting more lore and things because YAYYYYY)

I really love that all of Hiccup's companions are people cast away by Viking society.

Hiccup himself has been cast away by society, of course. He's the disgrace of the tribe, smaller than everyone else, and not a "proper Viking". Fishlegs is one of the smallest and weakest Vikings with poor eyesight and many medical problems. Camicazi is smaller than all the other Bog Burglars and approaches problems with cleverness and unique solutions, something Vikings don't welcome. Toothless is the smallest hunting dragon anyone has ever seen, and as a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus, pales in comparison to Furious. The Windwalker is a former slave dragon with anxiety and a limp that never goes away. The Woodensfang is a shadow of the dragon he once was, weighed down by guilt who has lost everyone he loves. The Deadly Shadow was adrift before he met Hiccup, not having a purpose and continuing to grieve everyone he cares about.

I could go on and on and on.

Hiccup surrounds himself with people who are cast away by Viking society - who don't meet the typical standards of a "proper Viking", whose ideas are too revolutionary for the Vikings to handle - and he does this despite all the pushback from those around him. He remains loyal to those who were cast away, those who suffered because they were different. He is one of them, and they recognize it, and are loyal to him in return. And it's because of this that Hiccup is able to succeed, that he's able to triumph over impossible odds time and time again.

There's just something really beautiful about it.

One of the best things in httyd books is that toothless is literally hiccup’s son ( idk what you say that is his child ) watching some moments of hiccup trying to convince toothless to do something for him is literally like a parent trying to convince their toddler to do something, also I always saw it as toothless seeing hiccup as a caring figure that he got attached to at the beginning ( book 1 when toothless came back to save hiccup) then he took him as his adoptive parent, you want a hunting dragon hiccup? You also get yourself a son and now you will have to start as a 10 years old parent good luck

This was the first gouache painting I tried to do back in December. I really loved painting the Windwalker’s wings as feathered so I think I’ll keep that idea around!

One fascinating underexplored aspect of the HTTYD books is how Hiccup is simultaneously both the Chosen One and an accidental hero.

Hiccup does not start the story with any notable skills besides his interest in dragons and his knowledge of Dragonese, both of which he picked up simply because he cared about dragons and not because of any Magical Gift (TM). He does get good at swordfighting, but even though he does have something of a natural talent he also puts in a lot of practice throughout the series which is a big part of why he gets better. It’s not just because he’s inherently perfect or some shit.

Now, Hiccup does have something of a “Chosen One” status as the Heir to Grimbeard the Ghastly and the Champion of Champions, etc etc. And obviously the fact that the Lost Things come to him is in a large part due to this Chosen One status. But what makes it extra interesting is that this Chosen One status is often granted as a result of Hiccup’s choices.

Hiccup ends up with Toothless because he feels bad for Fishlegs and gives up Horrorcow to him. He ends up with the sword because he stays behind on the Lucky Thirteen for Fishlegs. He’s able to escape Fort Sinister (and thus obtain the Roman shield) because he rescues Ziggerastica. He gets the arrow-from-the-land-that-does-not-exist, the ticking-thing, and the key-that-opens-all-locks on a quest to Hysteria to obtain a potato that will (supposedly) save Fishlegs. Humongous gives him the ruby heart’s stone in thanks for his help. The throne is found on an expedition to rescue Hiccup’s friend Camicazi, and that expedition wouldn’t exist if Hiccup hadn’t urged the Hooligans and Bog-Burglers to make peace in the first place. Hiccup is sent to find the crown by the witch when he goes into her fortune-telling hut to rescue Stoick. And the true Dragon Jewel—as pointed out in the text—is inside the lobster claw necklace that Fishlegs gave Hiccup in thanks for his love and kindness.

Hiccup ends up with the Lost Things, in other words, because he chooses the path of kindness or compassion. His destiny is a direct result of his own choices.

And Hiccup, despite being the Chosen One, isn’t originally in the cards for the prophecy at all. In How to Break a Dragon’s Heart, Excellinor seems confident that her son will become King because her fortunetelling has told her that Valhallarama will marry Humongously Hotshot. But in truth, Alvin broke up the pair just to be an asshole and thus inadvertently caused not only Hiccup’s birth but also his own ultmate rejection by Fate. This is futher emphasized by how he gives the lobster-claw necklace (and thus the Jewel) to Termagant in mockery, which leads to Fishlegs giving it to Hiccup out of love.

So in a lot of ways Hiccup is an outsider to Fate’s typical machinations. But where it really gets interesting is that this outsider status seems like a destiny in and of itself—as the narration says in book 12, “that was the job of a Hiccup […] to change the course of history”. Hiccups are a lot like wrenches thrown into the gears of history and systemic injustice. They break from the status quo because they choose love and compassion over popularity and power.

When Grimbeard dies, he is in mourning for his son Hiccup. So of course it makes sense that his Heir would also end up being a Hiccup. Because, for better or worse, Hiccups change things. They are the sort of people who will learn to speak Dragonese even though that language is the language of what is essentially a slave population. They are the sort of people who will find the Things through kindness when people like Alvin throw them away out of hatred.

Hiccup becomes the Chosen One because he is the kind of person who cannot close his eyes and turn away from injustice. Because he is sweet and curious and loving and compassionate and clever. Because he would do anything for his friends. Because he can defy fate, catch the Axe of Doom before lands, and choose to create a new world that most Vikings think is impossible. A world where not only the strong can belong, and where dragons live in perfect equality with all humans. A world we are still fighting for today.

ACNHHH here. It’s been a while since I last posted, but I recently read "How to Train Your Dragon School: Doom of the Darkwing" and the short story "When the Windwalker Changed," and I’ve been wanting to talk about these with someone. So I’m hoping to find people here who are interested too!

The short story feels like a small glimpse into Hiccup’s future, and I honestly loved seeing what he’s been up to after the events of Book 12. One thing I found really interesting is how older Book Hiccup and Windwalker seem to physically resemble Movie Hiccup and Toothless . Older Book Hiccup lost his left leg and replaces it with a carved wooden-metal prosthetic and his new black firesuit, which makes him feel more heroic compared to his younger self. Our boy has really come a long way! I do wonder what actually happened to his leg though. Maybe he lost it fighting enemies of the Wilderwest or while rescuing dragons?

Another detail I found intriguing in the short story is the chess piece plot, specifically the king piece.

This idea continues in "How to Train Your Dragon School." In the first, and so far only, book, Camicazi finds a wooden object inside the Darkwing’s stomach from a shipwreck, which turns out to be a queen chess piece. If this chess theme continues, it makes me think the series might have five books: queen, bishop, rook, knight, and pawn. I am not including the king since it already appeared in the short story. Since this series seems to take place somewhere between Books 6 and 7, I am wondering if it might eventually lead into a time skip past Book 12, almost like an unofficial “Book 13.”

What really got me thinking is the Prophecy Dragon’s prediction that Camicazi will one day become Hiccup’s enemy, which Hiccup mostly laughed off. Could this a hint of what happened in Book 8, when Camicazi briefly turned on Hiccup after discovering his slavemark? Some people theorize that Hiccup and Camicazi might eventually marry but struggle with ruling the Wilderwest together. Others think their story could mirror Chinhilda and Grimbeard, especially since one of the series’ themes is that history repeats itself.

Personally, I do not think I could handle Hiccup and Camicazi becoming true enemies. They are too precious 😭

I like to think that Hiccup would be more of an affectionate father because he somewhat wished that Stoick was. Hence the birth of this sketch. I also love the more domestic side of Hiccup and Astrid, and can’t resist drawing cute family moments lol.
