People are calling Nesta a pick me.
On a broader scale, I’d say that this demonstrates how the term “pick-me” has lost all meaning. This is a phenomenon I’ve been seeing for a while now; one where people use the term “pick-me” in a context where it doesn’t apply at all and is more used as a synonym for “woman I don’t like”. People reach for this buzzword so often because it’s a genuinely evocative term that describes real behaviours that are infuriating to witness or experience. However, it’s horribly misapplied and abused by people who want to feign progressive politics while believing the exact opposite.
Nesta being called a “pick-me” makes no sense. I might be misremembering here, but I’m struggling to recall a point where Nesta meaningfully aligns with the men in her life in order to prop herself up over her female peers. She actively rages against the men who try to control her and is shown to have a number of healthy female connections (unlike a certain other character…). Like…please just say what you mean and stop trying to hide behind the thinnest veil of feminism. I’d genuinely prefer it if they just called her a bitch.
