The story was told by Robert Baratheon, and many who believed in the lie of theft died for it. Rhaegar Targaryen defeated Robert Baratheon at the Trident; he won the war and publicly condemned Tywin Lannister, branded him a traitor, and executed him for his part in the Sacking of King’s Landing and beheaded Gregor Clegane himself for his unforgivable crimes. He released Jaime Lannister from the Kingsguard, his punishment being far worse than death itself. He made sure that House Frey learned the cost of their loyalty when the Crown took what they valued most, forced to rot in their castle while House Mallister reaped what was once theirs.
Robert’s Rebellion was built on a lie…
… and many died for his lies and desires.
The North was given their independence and was named the Kingdom of the North, and its rulers were House Stark of Winterfell, its seat as restitution for the crimes of the late King Aerys II Targaryen.
Set two decades later, after Robert’s Rebellion failed and Rhaegar defeated him and ascended as King of the Six Kingdoms.
Despite House Targaryen defeating the rebellion, Stannis Baratheon remains poisoned and fueled with vengeance for the defeat of his brother and the throne that was never House Baratheon’s. House Lannister, stained and branded courtesy of the late Tywin Lannister, remains in Casterly Rock, isolated and powerless in court but not diminished, as secret alliances between the Stormlands and the Westerlands both unified under hatred and greed.
The Kingdom of the North has enjoyed a somewhat peaceful reign, two decades, yet there are snakes armed with poison and teeth; House Bolton has remained silent, not in submission but in the long game. Believing that House Stark has reigned long enough, with the suspicious death of the late King Eddard ‘Ned’ Stark and with the new King Robb Stark having been crowned as the new King, House Bolton’s greed for the throne, power, and submission grows dark as they plot and scheme against their rulers.
House Bolton and their allies grow more defiant as House Stark’s motto is forgotten: The North Remembers; House Stark remembers, and House Stark will fight for what is theirs.
House Targaryen might have won the war and destroyed the rebellion, but tensions have been simmering under the surface. Lust for power, greed, and envy become the bread and butter for the lords who lost, with House Targaryen’s dragons filling up the sky and reminding the six kingdoms of their reign and power.
With Fire and Blood, House Targaryen remains undisputed while lesser lords and houses plot to covet the Iron Throne; the House of the Dragon lies awake while watching the realm burn with desire.
