Anatomy of the Uncanny is a new semi-private, cozy supernatural site set in the small fictional town of Fiddlehead, OR. We are focused on character-driven interpersonal conflicts and slice-of-life problems rather than life or death situations, and you can expect a new optional site event each season to help stir the pot. We want to foster a tight-knit community of writers who are interested in collaborating to make compelling stories with a 3-3-1 rating.

NOCTUS NOCTURNA

NOCTIS NOCTURNA is a Premium, 21+, semi-private HP-verse roleplay set in 1948. The focus of our plot revolves around Knockturn Alley and those who work in, live in, and frequent the eerie cobbled streets known for dark magic. Each character will be in some way connected to the Alley, and while outside events will occur, the core notion is to take a small section of the larger world and make it our main story. Hey Fiddleheaders! We're planning on doing our deliberations and sending out our first round of acceptances late on 7/10/24 or during the following day on 7/11/24. We're so excited to get started, and we're really enjoying the applications we've received so far. Make sure your discord is open to receive messages so we can let you know if you're accepted!

While there's always a chance we'll extend our window, we plan to close applications for this recruitment period on our launch day, 7/15/2024. Get those applications in before then!

Anatomy of the Uncanny pulls from many touchstones for inspiration for our cozy supernatural town. We feel it's important to share those with the community to understand the tone of the RP we are hoping to foster. You won't need to have consumed all these medias to play on Anatomy of the Uncanny; they're influences, but we've worked hard to make an original lore that incorporates the best of what we enjoy from a number of genres. These are some of our touchstones, in no particular order (but all great!).

CULT OF THE LAMB - An underlying sense of Cosmic Spookiness, but overall more about community building and caretaking.

STARDEW VALLEY - Small town building with a lot of interconnected relationships. It also has several secrets and Easter eggs to discover, most of them fantastical in their own right.

ANIMAL CROSSING - Know your neighbors. Give them gifts, become friends, laugh and enjoy their company. Get annoyed with your neighbors, get nosy about your neighbors. Hit your neighbors with nets—

TRUE BLOOD SHOW/SOUTHERN VAMPIRE BOOKS - PAS came out of their respective receptacles about 5 years ago, similar to how things operated in True Blood, but in a small town like Fiddlehead it's more of a social concern than a political one.

TEEN WOLF - Creature Feature, small town, and dramatic eye flashing/claw dropping from werewolves.

VAMPIRE DIARIES/ORIGINALS/LEGACIES AND ASSOCIATED - Vampires are old, dramatic, have their own ideas of society, and still manage to miscommunicate on a level truly human.

KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE - Witches are integrated into the world and the culture of Kiki's Delivery Service, and the same is true of Fiddlehead. The world keeps turning, perhaps even for the better.

HIS DARK MATERIALS - Specifically Daemons and how Witch Familiars operate.

WORLD OF DARKNESS TTRPGS - The idea of werewolves having multiple forms, especially, is pulled from WoD, though it's simplified in Fiddlehead.

BRIDGERTON - For social conflict vibes, Bridgerton is a great demonstration. Nobody is dying, but the conflict is riveting regardless, and we can't wait to see what happens to our favorite characters.

Fiddlehead, Oregon is a fictional mid-sized college town on the Oregon Coast about 2 hours away from Eugene, similar to Astoria or Newport, OR. It is a popular destination for day trips, featuring the Alder’s Garden historic district, the beautiful cliffside overlooks of Swallow Harbor and the Swallow Harbor Lighthouse, and the Collegiate Gothic Revival architecture of Ashleigh University.

For those who love to shop local, Bay Street is lined with clothing stores, art galleries, blown glass shops, and hobby shops with all the supplies one might need to enjoy the great outdoors. Nearby Heartwood National Park and Aiguille State Park draw nature enthusiasts and conservationists, while the many vineyards, orchards, ranches and farms on the outskirts draw those that love to work the land— or just enjoy the local fruit, cheese and wine.

Fiddlehead has the spirit of a small, active community. People are in each other's business here, for better or for worse. The locals believe in everything local as well. Other than a single Trader Joe's in Ashleigh Park, there is little in the way of major chains excepting perhaps a couple gas stations at the outskirts of town. Fiddleheaders need to drive to Eugene if they want to experience the fluorescents of Target –– and they're proud of it. Folks here are invested in their community; the local festivals are anticipated town-wide and the county fair competitions are approached with enthusiasm each season.
