A year ago, I attempted to raise funds in support of efforts to protect the Amazon, indigenous peoples in the region, and attempt to bring further awareness to the continuing climate crisis. It failed... miserably, only receiving one donation in addition to my own. Even though it failed, at least I can now say the objective of my fundraiser has been achieved! Sure, it took much longer than I'd hoped, other interests had to be put aside, and I primarily had to do it alone - but it's done. If anything, trying to fulfil this pledge has made me realise that besides the odd easily spouted word or two of encouragement... we are predominantly alone in our endeavours and pursuits, especially when in pursuit of a cause that is to the benefit of all, not just a select few. I hope this will change before it's too late, even though some may argue that we're already at that point. I must say a heartfelt thanks to the one person who did believe enough in the cause to contribute to the fundraiser, @gunningo, if you hadn't chipped in I probably would have given up on it completely, but knowing one other person genuinely believed it was something worth supporting, was enough for me to see it through. Thank you. During the fundraiser I stated that donors would have a say in which organisations receive funds; the Korean Animal Welfare Association, @kawa.hq was chosen as the final recipient in addition to @avaaz_org, and @rainforest_rescue. So often, one person can be the deciding factor. It's up to us to make the right decisions in support of those around us. In a world where truth has become a malleable concept just as easily reflecting belief, superstition and prejudice, as well as fact... and reality has become stranger than fiction - where the constructed and framed image of an act and the perception of it is of greater importance than the act itself; it becomes our responsibility to do what is right, at every level. Wealthy or not, your words... and your actions in support, not in contradiction, of them can be a constant for change and betterment. Choose them wisely, and follow through. #pledge #pledgefulfilled #ActforAmazonia #pennedplaces (at Changwon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CE0pTuwDuFa/?igshid=tknktdzux0lc
