Someone once said, “People may not tell you how they feel about you, but they always show you. Pay attention.” This quote resonates so much to a lot of people because actions always speak louder than words.
Anyone can say anything, but without actions backing up the words, words will mean nothing. Words can be pretty, musical, everything you need to hear, and everyone will wish that it is true and that it is enough—but it never is always true and never will words be enough. People’s actions will ultimately reveal one’s true intentions. No number of flowery words will make up for lackluster actions.
Every day, we encounter people who say a lot of things that they usually don’t have the intention of following through. Every day we hear a lot of promises, proclamations, and declarations of their so-called truth and profession of feelings, but at the end of the day, we can only count the number of times when actions fulfilled those words.
One common example is in a relationship. When someone tells you they love you but they don’t take the time to call you, spend time with you, even as simple as check up on you to see if you’re okay, then there is really something wrong with the picture. Their “love” and “care” no longer match how they treat you or how much time they spend with you. All these missed moments and disappointments make it hard to believe that their love is true.
Always remember that words reveal who a person is or who he/she wants to be, but only actions show who they really are.
Always say things with the intention of following through. Say things only when you mean them. And even though we want to believe that people mean what they say, the reality of life is that this will never always happen. You need to be able to see through people’s words and actions separately. Knowing how to read their words and their actions will show you is being true and who is walking in contradiction of themselves. Knowing how to tell the difference will mean that you’ll be able to choose who you let into your life, who will enhance your life and peace, not who will add more hurt and disappointment.
Beware of those who say one thing but do the opposite, or of those who often preach but don’t even apply their preaching to their own lives.
In the end, who would you rather have in your life, one who constantly assures you of their love but never shows it? Or would you rather be with someone who always shows you how they feel, but doesn’t often say the words?
Remember, walk the walk so that there’s no need to state it with words.
