Alfresco Activiti Support – A User Guide
Activiti designer is an Eclipse-based workflow editor with alfresco being the activiti project is a leading sponsor. It can execute different processes within the business, being open-source software in Java. It is a newly formed code base, based on the jBPM experience, and not rely on any old jBPM code. Activiti was designed as a process engineer before the clouds were even there. It is distributed under the Apache V2 license, containing most of the sources as jar files. To create activiti process definition using a graphical user interface you will need to set up the Activiti designer.
How to Install Activiti Designer?
To install activiti you will need a working Java runtime and Apache Tomcat installation. To install activiti plugin, follow these steps:
Start eclipse (the eclipse is an integrated development environment used for computer programming)
In the menu bar, go to help > install new software
Click add
Fill in the name field with Activiti BPM 2.0 and fill in the location.
Click OK
Click next, accept any license agreement, and click finish
The eclipse will install the latest version of alfresco activiti support.
Integrating Activiti BPM
A preview of activiti BPM workflow engine is recently launched by Alfresco, integrated with its ECM platform. The activiti alfresco integration extends features of the workflow by providing users more pliability and integration capabilities for the flow of process betwixt alfresco and other applications.
Activiti is a lightweight workflow and management platform for disciplined operations, targeted at developers, system admins, and business people.
About Activiti Workflow
In Alfresco, it is a chain of annexed tasks applied to a document or other parts of the content. In addition, the task can be performed automatically or manually by a person or group.
Workflow automates the process for the user. From the five-workflow definitions provided by default, the user can choose the best suited for him. For more complex tasks, you can even create your own workflow definitions. The five supplied workflow definitions are:
Adhoc
Group review and approve
Parallel review and approve
Pooled review and approve
Review and approved
A workflow is often created using a graphical modeler. Alfresco comes with various predesigned workflows but in case of more complicated tasks, you can design your own Activiti workflows.
Using an alfresco activiti workflow designer you can create Activiti process definitions. A number of tools are needed to design, execute and monitor your workflow. Some of the tools are available with Alfresco, others you can get separately.
