With my msn autism including developmental disability and borderline intellectual disability, I have a really hard time understanding big picture issues, like issues that involve theology, politics, ethics, etc. I'm also easily swayed in all but my hardest held opinions, and a lot of opinions are either the ones I'm "supposed to" have, that someone has taken the time to explain the viewpoint to me, etc. I struggle with research unless I'm really, really interested in the topic, and I cannot manufacture interest. I also talk to form an opinion and enjoy discussing issues that involve theology, politics, and ethics, trying hard to remember that theyre not theoretical and impact real people's lives. I usually go into these discussions with only other people's explanations of their opinions and my gut inclinations to go on and am enjoying exploring the nuances with folks and seeing if i can form my own opinion. Additionally, in these sort of situations, I use semantics or really precise language to convey that I mean one thing and not another and feel really frustrated when people don't catch that precision or misinterpret my meaning. It feels international. I also find that people often insist I have expressed some firmly held opinion, no matter how many times I say I dont have one and am just exploring ideas in the space with them, or even that my opinion is the opposite of what they're stating but that I dont agree with every nuance of the community that hold that opinion 's rhetoric or perhaps hold 2 seemingly conflicting ideas to be true (which is possible). Idk, I wish more people were open to exploring ideas and even outting our own views aside to do it.
