ya as someone w/ learning disabilities (gnarly adhd that effects me every second of every day/really really bad focus, comprehension issues that get worse under stress, issues w/ sequencing, poor memory, + dyscalculia and some mild dyslexia) + trauma from physically abusive learning environments/school (I developed intense insomnia & extreme anxiety that I still live with since grade school bcus I was forced by physical violence to stay awake ‘until my homework was completed’ even tho I could never complete it; and this is only one among many examples of this kind of abuse) ——
I still am trying to develop my political edu where I can on my own time, still seeing this as imperative, still highly fucking sus that the state/“the empire” is benefiting greatly from co-opting anti-ableist language. Like I’m fully sus of anyone in those endless comments sections who shoot down other ppl for encouraging each other to develop their political education, get into reading if they can, practicing critical thinking skills & media literacy etc etc and then telling everyone off and calling them “ableist” for it to shut down the convo entirely.
Like I don’t yet have proof this is like direct fed involvement to sow discord amongst us — but I do know it’s been fuking convenient as hell to the oppressive genocidal state in convincing so many of us in the masses, disabled or abled, that someone encouraging you to learn things/try to read things/develop your political education is your enemy and is “ableist”. Cannot tell u how many times I’ve been trashed on and talked over by someone I don’t even know for encouraging my fellows to prioritize their political edu and then having my disability called into question or accused of being a lie. I always see ppl talking over us to tell us we’re “too disabled to learn”.
Motherfucker *it is ableist* to assert or imply that ppl with learning or cognitive disabilities are incapable of learning things or being incapable of being “smart” or intelligent at all!
