Not Who He Thinks
Jambee Beaux x Puddin (OC)
Tags/CW: angst, mild plot shit, Puddin was a goon undercover, deceit, open ending
---
The first time Mr. Valentine kissed her as "Puddin", it'd been like pushing two dolls together. A playful pantomime of what a child would see from a couple. Two perfect bodies connecting at the lips before pulling away with placid grins.
Puddin hadn't even wanted to kiss him then. It was just something that happened. He felt it was the right moment. He felt comfortable enough to do it.
Of course, it made her uncomfortable. But up to several weeks of this, she was a puppet in her own skin. Piloting this ditzy persona who always knew how to make her man smile...
And one of the ways was to let him call her "his".
The first time Jambee Beaux kissed her as Mackenzie, he was uncertain. Something he'd never been with a suitor.
The futures of his crushes, trysts, and paramours, had never been imagined up up to the bedroom or a wedding day if he were bolder. But he pursued them with absolute certainty regardless.
He imagined a wedding for him and Puddin'. The fantasy was similar to others but in a different palette, soft orange. Though she often wore rose or light plum, he took note of her distinct gravitation towards warmer colors when not wearing the former.
He was so certain that he knew her then; also not unlike a lot of his lovers. He knew he wanted her and wanted a wedding with her.
Mackenzie... he didn't know if he wanted Mackenzie. She was so different.
She was wry, squirrely, and mostly impassive. Befitting of a goon, who knew what to be on command. Tough in a fight. Anxious around power; she could barely meet his eyes now.
She squinted a lot more than Puddin, who always ogled up at him with warm brown irises that caught in the sun. Mackenzie often faced down, so her eyes looked black.
Puddin always told him what he wanted to hear. And Mackenzie told the truth... that everything they had was one big lie.
T-Mon tried to tell him something was up with Puddin. And honestly, he's warring with the idea of seeing her garrotted till the glimmer left her big eyes rather than having to live with this new person.
Wouldn't that be perfect? Her doll like expression frozen in a small gasp, arms splayed out on the floor, like she was dancing in a dream. Her concealer would be her embalment -- Mackenzie has a lot of moles and bumps--. She'd be buried in that quaint plaid minidress --Mackenzie wears a baggy, ill-fitting shirt--. Legs twisted over the other with those stylish heeled boots --Mackenzie's sneakers are old and worn-- FUCK!
Why did she lie ?!
Why to him !?
What had he done? He's not a perfect man. He's done a lot of things. A good chunk of them bad. He might deserve some bad luck.
But why did it have to be a lover? Someone who meant so much-
He's a caring man. He never would've have hurt her so why?
"It was nothin' personal."
... He didn't want Mackenzie. But he wanted something real.
And she was as real as it got.
He'd gone too far just to quit her now.
He had to see this through.
