I am 100% indifferent to Orsino (I mostly blame Bioware's writing for this though)(which is weird since I almost never blame Bioware's writing, but that's beside the point) so please explain why you love him so much! I'm really really really curious because as I said to me he's just some kind of non-entity that's supposed to be plot relevant but I just? find him so easy to overlook? maybe he gets overshadowed by Meredith and her antics, idk
oh I just reread the message I sent you about Orsino and it sounds a bit sarcastic? it really wasn't my intention. I'm legit curious about your love for the one character I'm completely indifferent about. it would be cool if I ended up seeing him under a new light!
No worries :D This isn’t the first time I’ve had to explain why I love a character. ( @underpaid-paragon asked me to explain my love of Carver once too. :P )
Well, I’m not gonna lie, part of it is that I love his design! It’s really unique and I love the fact that he doesn’t have the generic elf-face we see so much of in DA2.
His character arc (we don't see this, it's all from the codex and DA wiki) is so interesting. He started off as a nobody, trying to keep his head down and just avoid the templars. But after his best friend Maud's suicide, he became the biggest advocate the mages have, and the only one of them who would stand up to Meredith. And the fact is, we only see the end of this, and that doesn't help him any. It makes it a bit more interesting, but we only see him at the end, when he's... well, a lot like Anders. A desperate man with nothing left to lose.
I think part of what made me love him was just seeing how /tired/ he was, how deep that despair ran through him. At the end he says something along the lines of "Why don't they just drown us as infants", and that really stuck with me.
And you’re right--I think he does get overshadowed by Meredith and her antics, because she's just... loud and flashy and fucking unhinged, and he's a lot more quiet.
(Also, I have a post of Orsino headcanons that I’m kind of proud of too, which talks a bit about the weird Harvester shit at the end. I love my weird old elf. :C )
