Assessment 2 - Time-based Collaborative Project
The documentary from our group is mainly inspired by the experimental shooting painting ‘Tirs’ from the French artist Niki de Saint Phalle. We are impressed by her way of elaborating arts in the week of Contemplation and Experimentation.
She shot bags of paints that were placed on the canvas before the commencement. After those bags were shot, the coloured paint explored to flow and splash on the canvas. This is an abstract painting included with experimentation and explorations, shooting and the splashing of the paints promote the idea of unknown. She expressed her emotions and thoughts of the society through these shooting painting. Audiences can experiment strong impact force from her ‘live’ shooting.
Our group decided to do a painting experiment. Instead of doing the shooting in the canvas or any other forms of art materials, we decided to splash the colours on the human body. Artists usually paint their work on art materials like canvas or paper, what if we put the coloured paint on a person, how this person would feel about being painted or shot by coloured paint. Being bullied or humiliating? This is our experiment to express our ideas to the current society as bullying / disrespect is a very large issue exited on our society.
We worked out with different painting materials such as colour power, body painting colour and watercolour to bring the best effect. Eventually, we decided to use the acrylic pigment. We first mixed the acrylic pigment with water, and then put into the water balloons. One of our group member played the role of innocent who will be painted by another member who played as the bully. Both innocent and bully wore masks to hide their identity. The reason of doing so, innocents who being bullied in this society are usually shame on reporting bully cases, which create more opportunities for bully to perform their acts. Bullies usually stay anonymous to stay away from being caught.
