FINAL ASSESSMENT WORK
FINAL WORK 1 (FINAL 1/3)
For this experiment i cut a cardboard box into circles and painted them into the cardboard food
I then made them into decorative ornaments
200 Word Statement
In order to successfully transform my box into a ship, I had to do extensive research on different ships and their different purposes and dimensions. In my three experiments, I serendipitously made my ships with no regard for measurements and dimensions. My final product required the proper measurements; I first drew out on a spare piece of paper and made a mini sized version of my final ship. I then made a real life-sized version of the bow of the ship and then traced it onto the cardboard of the box before cutting it out; I replaced the body of my ship with a red label whisky box for I was limited on time. The hot glue did not hold up as well as I wished so I ended up using double sided tape throughout the entire building of the ship. I made a ship because a ship essentially is a vessel; a container that carries something much more important than itself much like a box. The human body is a vessel, in the way that our body are a container that deteriorates in time but we carry something more important than our bodies, our message and our impact on others.
Final Box Transformation Submission
This is my final submission for the box transformation assignment; this video shows both the process of the transformation of the box as well as the final product. The video uses various techniques such as time-lapse, slo-mo and stop motion to capture the process. Overall I am pretty happy with my result, however, I wish I had more time so I could paint it and add more detail because even though I spent the majority of the day building it, it doesn’t seem as difficult as it is to build.
*My father ended helping me at the end by sticking on the little cabins and cannons for I had previously hurt my hand a little when I was trying to move a ladder.
Final Box Transformation Submission Images
This is my final box transformation which I created a ship through the use of various boxes and materials. Unlike my experiments, I actually measured the dimensions and made the ship accordingly. All in all the materials used in my final product include:
6 different boxes
3 cardboard rolls from the end of a roll of receipt paper
1 toilet roll
1 skewer
1 Styrofoam box’s lid
And A LOT of double sided tape.
Three Experiments Video compilation
This is a video showing the process of how I made my experiments and as seen there is very little planning in each of the ships which I fixed up on my final product. All these experiments were made in my garage where my father set up a little space for me to do my art in, away from distractions.
Experiment 3:
Ship number 3: Definitely my least favourite out of all my experiments, hence the fact that I am trying to guillotine it. I felt like everything about the ship wasn’t working for me. The one thing I did enjoy out of the making of the ship is tiny oars I made it for I was trying a more a kayak vibe. The overall aesthetic did not please me however it did teach me the many things not to do in my final product which I am thankful for.
Experiment 2:
Ship number two: Ship number 2 as made from the same pizza box. This was definitely not my favourite and it always just reminded me of a wedge of cheese. Once again I did not enjoy the use of masking tape. In this experiment, was playing around with what kind of shapes I could make with the box and has seen I learnt not to make a ship the shape of a wedge of cheese because it doesn’t even resemble a ship anymore.
