I got into fanfic around the same time you did, and I've also noticed a softening of the hardliner attitude towards concrit. I think that's been positive overall. If you want concrit, it's out there, but if you need space to just work stuff out without someone jumping down your throat, that's important too. It makes fanfic more accessible, and frankly, I see more critical self-reflection in fans now than I did back then.

Yes, exactly. There should be space for people who want to doodle and play, explore things and have fun. It seems like, at least in years past, there wasn’t much acknowledgement of those things as worthy motivators. You were either chasing publication, and should thus steel yourself for any and all slings and arrows, or you didn’t show up at the gate. I think the move away from that attitude is good for everyone.

So I can see them giving Solas some kind of ending, but there won’t be any real difference in the outcome. Besides, there’s no question in my mind the Veil is coming down.

yeah i can’t see them not destroying the veil at this point either. the branching would be too complicated to leave it to player choice (boy won’t that fandom shitstorm be fun!) unless they plan on ending the series there ala mass effect (doubtful). i do wonder what they’ll do with solas. the way he talks about his plans with a romanced lavellan who offers to come with him (idk if the dialogue is different for a high approval friend inquisitor), he might end up doing some shady shit along the way.

Yeah, I think Dorian and Fenris both use alcohol as a coping mechanism from time to time, but drinking to excess now and then does not make either of them an alcoholic.

There never seems to be any nuance, either. They go straight from zero to "shriveled black liver." Never "maybe uses it as a bit of a crutch sometimes" or some other middle ground.

But why look for nuance when you could swing between teetotaler and full-blown alcoholic? It’s more ~*~dramatic~*~ that way.

(Somebody on Twitter said that most of Tumblr’s conceptions of drug and alcohol use all make them sound like they never progressed beyond their fifth grade D.A.R.E. education. I am starting to think this may actually be the case.)

o.O. I’m....kind of glad I won’t see that slide since watching the ingame Cullen-stays-on-lyrium stuff on YouTube was sad enough and he doesn’t stay on it in any of my runs.
