“you have to take this seriously!” admittedly, addie had been laughing herself for the last ten minutes or so but it was only because she found them so amusing. she stepped away from them to grab her phone and paused the spotify playlist she had going on. “you’re too in your head about it. i need you to relax, feel the music. stop thinking.” easier said than done, she knew. “how can i help?”

“what? i can’t just treat you for the day? why do i have to have some sort of alternative motive?” the batting of her eyelashes shouldn’t fool them. addie almost always had a motive for her actions and this time was no different. however, she figured if they gained a meal and a day out free of charge that could be a win for them.

“are you feeling okay?” her hand raised almost instantly to press against their forehead, a half laugh tumbling from her lips. addie didn’t really know how to take their ‘proposal’ but she definitely didn’t think it was serious. even if they’d specified otherwise. “ —i know you’re not actually suggesting that we get married.”

“i uh — i need a refill.” addie really ought to get it together. she thought that they were past this; that she was past this. that she could stomach being in the same room as them without feeling like her whole world had been turned upside down. apparently not. perhaps that was down to the fact that now they’d moved on, inviting their whole friend group around to their place to introduce everyone to their new partner. she thought that she’d been holding it together pretty well but then they’d sent one smile in her direction and she was excusing herself from the living room and heading for the kitchen. she leaned back against the countertop and heaved out a sigh, her eyes looking up at the ceiling as she forced herself to hold back tears.

she’d been scrolling through her phone that morning in bed when she noticed it  — the clue app. addie couldn’t recall a time in close to six or seven weeks when she’d clicked on it and when she checked, the math ended up. she was late, like two missed periods late. a quick trip to the supermarket and five pregnancy tests later, she text richie and asked him to come over. not unusual, they spent plenty of time just hanging out with one another but what was unusual was that the second he arrived she barely even knew what to say to him. she was sat on her couch just staring, her lower lip being rather harshly pulled between her teeth. “we need to talk about something... important.”
