A correspondent of the Vincennes Sun, speaking of the pleasant domestic qualities of Mrs. Douglas, relates that, at the Chicago celebration, Mrs. Douglas was asked how she stood the canvass. “Very well,” said she; “but I must go and get my husband some clothes—he has come out of the battle half naked. I got him two dozen shirts last spring, and two or three sets of studs; he lost all his shirts but two, and one that don't belong to him, and all the studs but four, which belong to four different sets; and, besides, he hasn't any of the other clothes that he started out with.” His old white hat, however, rode out the storm, dilapidated, but safe.
