Adélie penguins form monogamous pairs each breeding season, typically for life. Courtship and egg-laying takes place in mid-October on barren patches of land on the Antarctic continent.

My big sister asked me to draw a cartoon Adelie penguin for her so I made this little Antarctic dinosaur enjoying a sun bath.  It was pretty fun to do.

Penguin Awareness Day!

Are you aware that it's #PenguinAwarenessDay? Here are two Adélie Penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae) which are common all along the Antarctic coast, the only place where they reside. They can't fly, but they do have feathers and can swim around 5 miles per hour (8.0 km/h). From Edwin Ray Lankester, Report on the Collections of Natural History made in the Antarctic Regions during the Voyage of the "Southern Cross." (1902). Contributed for digitization by Smithsonian Libraries ( @smithsonianlibraries ) to Biodiversity Heritage Library.

12月16日（水）open 12-18 寒い！ 今週もできる限りあたたかくしてお待ちしております。 大曽根さんの在店は明後日金曜日の予定です。 休園中に飼育員さんの動物紹介がありましたので、リポストいたします。 私も大好きなアデリーペンギンのお話し。 #Repost @shunsuke_osone with @make_repost ・・・ ZOO・中川 動物紹介 (本日は休園しています) アデリーペンギン 崖っぷちで何やら主張しています。 彼らは小さいけれどきちんと主張し、なんならぶつかり合いも厭わない強い気持ちの持ち主です。 小さいと言っておいてなんですが、どのくらいなんだろうと調べたら体長70㎝程らしく、そう小さくもないですね。 (名古屋港水族館では皇帝ペンギンと比べてしまうので) この漆絵は崖には薄い石を貼り付け、アデリーは盛り上げた上に白漆、艶黒、桃色漆で描きました。 目の周りが白いのもポイント高いです。 #アデリーペンギン #ペンギン #adeliepenguin #漆絵 #本中川 #ZOO中川 #大曽根俊輔 (本･中川) https://www.instagram.com/p/CI2D0TFhO-J/?igshid=o1nzd7u17zx2
