I am SO in love with the details and the running themes of this movie + the expanded series and shorts, and Rapunzel being a quite literal light from Heaven is no exception. Because her insistence that the lanterns are not stars is correct - both in the literal way, and also when it comes to the scene the light is her. The glow and romance of the starlight comes from her and Eugene and the glowing romance they’re in.

Everything that Gothel tried to hide and deny from Rapunzel was still out there waiting for her, and there was no amount of abuse, obfuscation, or gaslighting that Gothel could use to overcome the fact that Rapunzel is as much a part of the light as the light is a part of her. It’s a beautiful metaphor.
