The First Time:

I headcannon that he’d be extremely romantic about it actually
Because if you’re at this stage then we’re assuming he’s grown used to you and also to affection from you
So he’d want to do everything right—well, as right as possible when you’re constantly covered in sweat and dirt from your job
He’d take his time and make sure you’re 100% comfortable with everything going on
He’s cocky about it, of course. You wouldn’t be sleeping with Illinois if he wasn’t. Actually, worry about him when he’s NOT cocky.
But it’s not the annoying kind of cocky this time. It’s the kind that silently says, “You don’t need to worry about a single thing, I’ve got you.”
He’s experienced so he’ll be able to take good care of you and give you the most mind blowing first experience ever.
This being the only time he takes off his cowboy hat, because he wants to show you just how seriously he’s taking this.
It happens at night, he’s set up candles in this little cavern area he discovered kinda deep inside a cave system. There’s not really too many bugs or anything because he made sure to take the necessary precautions (like bug spray). He’s laid out a tarp and a blanket and has the WHOLE thing set up and it’s not perfect, but you can tell he did it and that’s incredibly sweet.
When He’s Rough:
It is most definitely when something went wrong
Either the artifact went missing, was stolen or maybe even broken
Either way, something pissed him off and now he needs to blow off this steam
This anger manifests itself into lust the moment you place your hand on his shoulder to comfort him
It takes maybe a few seconds for him to swiftly turn on you and slam you into the wall or bend you over
He does this almost silently too and that’s how you know he’s really mad
His hands are all over you and his kisses are hot and sloppy
He’d waste no time in marking hickies onto your neck and ripping your clothes off
It’s safe to say that these are the times where his kinkier side comes out and you probably wouldn’t be walking or exploring for the next day or so
When He’s Gentle:
The first time is a given that he’s going to be gentle. After that...not so much. I mean, take your pick. His sex depends on his moods entirely. If he’s tired? expect sloppy and messy. If he’s pissed? expect hard, rough, and fast. But those times when he’s lonely or feeling vulnerable? Oh baby boi...
These would be the times where he’s submissive more than likely.
These would also probably be the only times where he SHOWS that he’s vulnerable
There’s no cockiness here
He needs to be taken care of and that means going slow and memorizing every inch of each other
He’d make the most noise during these times too—they’re the most intimate you’re probably going to get with him
Whimpers, gasps, grunts—you name it, it’s falling from his lips
He’d touch you like you were a porcelain doll or a priceless gem. The man is a tomb raider who values one-of-a-kind artifacts. That’s what you’d be to him. You’re one of a kind and his true feelings would show during these moments.
Look him in the eyes, they’re a direct give away to his feelings.
Not so much kinky as it is passionate and not nearly as sporadic or random in location or action as it is in timing. These times are probably rare for him, but he can trust you now and he knows that. If you see this side of him, be grateful. He doesn’t show it often—if ever
