I need to know... In the Alive 2007 shows were they actually doing stuff on the pyramid or was everything pre-recorded and they were just there?

where did this blue fur coat and face star guy-man look come from ? because i love it sosososo much but i have no idea where it came from !

hey there -

the fur + star combo comes from a band called darlin’ that guy and thomas (along with future phoenix guitarist laurent brancowitz) were part of in their late teens, prior to the formation of daft punk. 

apparently guy-man had a very distinct image during this period: the interviews that do talk about darlin’ in more depth mention that he wore a fur coat, a star on his cheek, and glitter on his hands. in theory it’s a pretty killer look, but it’s also been said that his hair was real greasy and that he carried all his stuff around in a plastic bag, so take from that what you will (lol).

How did you first get into daft punk? :)

I’ve talked a little about this on the podcast, but I didn’t actually get into daft punk until the period after ram was released. I have older memories from the early 2000s/discovery era of hearing songs like “hbfs” on the radio (and enjoying them), but I only started exploring dp’s work as a whole after watching the 2014 grammys.

or at least, I assume. truth be told, I have very few memories as to how I got involved in the fandom - i.e., more interested in daft punk -  in the first place. but in any case, I think “the hug” was a big catalyst in that process. it was definitely a powerful moment, even as a non-dp-fan, and it seems like that raw, genuine, and generally “human” expression of love coming from two faceless robots was something that really struck a chord with me.

dont say these things to me musiiiii!!! i get what you mean, about RAM feeling like an ending. because it does feel like an ending. but i dont believe, even for one second, that thomas bangalter and guy manuel de homem christo will stop making music. it only took seeing them stepping onto the stage with the weeknd at the grammys to cement my thinking. they have FUN dressing up as robots. they LOVE making music. 1/2

maybe one day we will see the last track that daft punk will ever make. one day daft punk, as a duo, will dissolve. but i dont think as long as thomas and guy are able, they will stop doing what they love, whether it be producing music, directing films, making film scores, etc.

but i agree a new daft punk concert would be hella.

fingers crossed! but I absolutely agree - I can’t see either of them quitting professional music (or anything else they love) until they have to. and a lot of what comes with waiting for alive 20xx or a new album is recognizing that as much as they may love their fans, guy and thomas will put things out at their own pace first and foremost/when they’re ready - not because of any xxx7/once-a-decade tour “rules”.
