Happy Sunday... For #31daysofcosplay day 18 here’s Sardonyx from Steven Universe! This is another costume I sadly don’t have a lot of pics of, but luckily I still have it in my closet so hopefully I can take more at some point. This was the first time I made artificial limbs and it was very tricky. These pics are from Dragoncon 2015. 💕💕

I’m digging into the throwback archives again for #31daysofcosplay day 19. I feel like these pics really represent early 2000s cosplay: the shiny fabric, the shiny wig, my wonky handmade dress, and the fact that I’m cosplaying Anthy from the Utena movie. These pics are from Katsucon I think 2005, and this was the first costume I made that won an award. I think it looks sooo hideous in retrospect but at the time I was proud of it. 🤣 I remember it being one of the first times I ever drafted a pattern for a dress, the first time I worked with paper clay, and the first time I entered a con masquerade. I think my sewing skills have come a long way in the past 15 years!

Throwback Tuesday for #31daysofcosplay day 20 is that time I was Tifa Lockhart from FF7 at Anime Expo 2005. This was a surprisingly controversial costume back in the day. I got a lot of flack and negative comments for being “too fat” to cosplay Tifa. I only wore it once and was pretty much traumatized by the hate I got so I sold the costume right away. Back then body shaming was the norm online and the cosplay/fandom community was particularly vicious about it. Thanks to efforts by the body positivity movement to normalize all body types, these days it seems to be less acceptable to just openly hate people for what their body looks like. Tho societal attitudes surrounding body acceptance still have a long way to go, they have come a long way as well.

I thought looking at these pics would give me PTSD flashbacks or whatever but, when I look at them now I just feel like I look... Fine. Not amazing but definitely fine lol and not worth beating myself up over. It’s too bad I let the opinions of others ruin this costume for me.

Happy Halloween! 🎃👻 For #31daysofcosplay finale I can think of no better costume than the second version of my Andorian OC from Star Trek. I posted the old version earlier this month, but this costume has evolved over time thanks to help from my BFFs. We like this pale blue body paint rather than the greenish blue we were using before and I love the wig gifted to me by circuitsmaximus. We had a group of Andorians at the last Cherry Hill Star Trek con before it was cancelled forever. That was a really unforgettable con. 💕💕

Two sleeps till Halloween. 🎃 #31daysofcosplay day 29 is Stevonnie from Steven Universe. Tbh this was kiiinda a troll costume to run around in on Thursday at dragon con 2015 and my shorts were too big but I had fun anyways! I love when I get to use my real hair for cosplay. 💕 I had some anxiety about showing my midriff but at the end of the day who the hell cares!! I just wanted to cosplay one of the few non-binary characters to ever exist at the time.

Happy Friday!! #31daysofcosplay day 23 is Kim from Venture Brothers! I think this is the third VB cosplay I posted this month! Kim was one of those characters who only appeared in like 1 episode but everyone loved her and wanted her to come back, me included. I first wore this at DragonCon, I think 2010 but I’m not sure!! I love working with plastic-y fabrics like this, they always look so good!

Day 6 of #31DaysofCosplay: Dr. Mrs. The Monarch from Venture Bros! I first wore this at #Otakon 2009, but it made an appearance at SDCC that year too. I love this show so much! The Venture Brothers is literally why I call myself “adorpheus” (after Dr. Orpheus). I’m so sad it got cancelled! 😭 I hope @adultswim will let it live on elsewhere.

This cosplay is handmade by me! It definitely put my 2009 era sewing skills to the test. So many good memories with this one, like wearing it when I met Doc Hammer at SDCC! Unlike some of the other costumes I’ve shown this month, I actually do still have this one!! Maybe someday I’ll spiff it up and bring it out again...

I dug deep into the Anime Expo archives to find these pics of me as Tsunade from Naruto for #31daysofcosplay Day 17. I think these are from AX 2005? 🙀 So I’m baby in these pics. I remember this being a pretty easy one to make except that I had to make the pants twice because the first pair I made came out too small.
