I have no reason to say this, but in my mind palace, Darry is really interconnected in their neighborhood.

It’s not really intentional. He’s just a big favor for favor guy. Plus, his dad was the same way, so some of it he inherited. So, now when his father owed this lady a mowed lawn anytime he mowed their own, Darry does it for the price of a frozen casserole to bake on emergency, can’t be bothered to cook, days.

And now he’s added his own. Like he owes clean gutters in exchange for some family recipes. Or giving a couple other kids a ride home from Pony’s track practices in exchange for someone to drop in every once in a while when he has to be away to make sure no one’s set the goddamn house on fire.

Can I say something slightly controversial… I actually really do like Matt Dillion as Dallas Winston….

My SINGLE beef with movie Dallas is just him calling Johnny a little shit at the drive-in. That felt pretty far for book Dallas when Johnny is involved. I see why the choice was made tho. First impressions matter, so it makes sense to over blow Dallas’ aggressive nature in the beginning-ish of the film

And if your biggest gripe is him being “too attractive” for the role, I mean, idk man. I fear teens/tweens are always swooning over such archetypes. Even if he was butt ugly, he would have a fan club. I also think, sure, the halo effect is real. But it only extends so far. If he was “uglier” in the movie, nothing plot wise would change, so I can’t be that mad for an actor to be “too attractive” for such a role or for 14yos to have their “I can fix him” moment while watching

I lowkey don’t like people being patronizing when talking about “the middle schoolers that get into the outsiders and make it their personality for a year or less or forget about it after reading”

This is partially because people will do that/say that stuff to me not knowing I am a 21 year old, have been into it for about 2 years now, have made fan content/works on multiple platforms for as long, & never touched it in middle 😭

Additionally, it’s just a little annoying. And if I was such a middle schooler, it would make me wanna leave the “phase” as soon as possible

Also just that they talk with certainty that it will be a phase for all such kids while having been a fan themself some years… I think middle schoolers are capable of some years long interest in it too
