Design Process: Adrian
Adrian is one of the Coven Heads in The Owl House. The Coven Heads are the leaders in each section of magic, Adrian being the Head of the Illusion Coven. Adrian has the unique trait of having a tail, implying that he is half-demon, or that it is simply a decoration. Adrian is most known to be the "dramatic gay man" archetype from different media.
considering the many different ways that Adrian could be dressed, and that his work attire doesn't really given any leads, I had to use my imagination more than with the others. I decided upon some concepts of a more feminine outfit, an outfit that is a mix of feminine and masculine, and a drag-queen outfit design. The idea to make a drag-queen design is because Adrian is the one that Tali wants to play the Genie during the balcony scene, and because the fluff on his shoulders reminded me of the type of fluff seen on some dresses/ coats.
Tali chose the outfit from the first concept, and the hair from the second, which was just a short ponytail. Hence, Tali decided that Adrian shall be a drag queen.
I don't have much to say for the outfits themself, aside from maybe clarifying that the second one's pants, are meant to have a flowy fabric like seen in the reference.
The design is simple, a dress with a side cut and a pattern on the bust, some fluff, high heel boots, the tail, and gloves. however I can't lie, the colours were more difficult to pick than I expected. I wanted originally to use a sort of black for the fluff, gloves and shoes. However, then I remembered that Adrian's hair is black, hence that would mean that nearly the entire design would be one colour which I did not want. So instead, I made the gloves and heels a lighter blue, and the orbs around the tail and ponytail a golden-yellow for contrast.
Tali was very happy with the result, that made me very happy since I thought very hard about the colours.
Although I wish I could make the gloves and boots black of course, I'm very satisfied with the piece.
