"... Do I know you?"
adventurerinthetardis liked this.
"It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you."
"Are you the Doctor?" Rebecca giggled , thinking herself so amusing on her first day at the school.
Adrian directed his attention at the girl sitting near the back of the classroom on the first day of school.
Oh, no. Back row students who liked to speak were never good signs.
No one laughed though, there were just a few confused comments and expressions.
He supposed she still received the attention she wanted though. Positive reinforcement.
He raised his dark eyebrows.
“I’m an English teacher, Miss…” he glanced down at his attendance sheet, "Miss Summerfield. I do not have a PhD of any kind."
Went to school long enough for it, though. Adrian sighed.
“It’s curious though, how we never learn, or teach, how to use the word the. We just expect everyone to know it, for it to come through pure experience.”
He mused this, deciding to change the lesson today. Grammar was more important than denouncing mainstream literature, anyway. He directed his next question at the entire class.
“Can anyone define the word ‘the’ for me?”

"I think I'm lost."
