Coq a Turkey Day Countdown: Season 6, Day 9

yeah so, since today is an american holiday, let's talk about Jess and Aeon

first, i wanna bring attention to her family

Jessica is obviously some version of First Nations (Native American) due to the plentiful.... aesthetics everywhere, unfortunately we don't know which of the people she's connected with and... well... she obviously doesn't live on a reservation

but she is without a doubt the depiction of a First Nations citizen according to Thomas Astruc and friends

and then Aeon is... well she's a robot but she's also black

both of these girls very obviously belong to cultures of color, BUT i am not saying that Barbs and Olympia don't also belong to cultures of color, i am simply pointing out that at first glance it appears that this mixed race gay couple adopted some kids from the system and that those kids are doing pretty good for themselves now

and i LOVE that!

i am mildly concerned about the girls not being connected to their obvious cultures, but i choose to believe in the world of miraculous ladybug that america is a TRUE melting pot and there's none of that ugly shit people of their cultures normally have to deal with

i mean, they have a friggin French-American Friendship Week, we dont have that, therefore i choose to believe in a better world

and so i choose to believe that when the original Thanksgiving happened in universe, it WAS actually a fun dinner with two groups of people working together and no one did anything untoward towards the other group (looking at you early colonial americans)

getting away from the doom and gloom, jess and aeon doign each other's hair and having sleepovers and jess being why aeon was finally allowed out of the lab

aka im pretty sure maj was so worried about aeon that she had to stay in the lab for a long time

like this is a MOTHER that loves her superchild but lets her do whatever she wants as long as she doesnt endanger herself

i love them so much

I really wanna work with Jess and Aeon, but I can't do it without changing their backstory entirely. I hate the idea of having non-Miraculous superheroes and that would mean there's no Majestia nor Knight Owl, thus changing everything about Jess and Aeon. And I feel uncomfortable having Aeon be a robot. Finally, I already struggle with the Chinese Miraculous Box, I can't imagine adding another fifteen Miraculouses...

NY thing.

I’m not watching the special, or at least I’m not planning to. I’ll probably stick to spoilers and other people’s reviews. Most of what you’ll hear here is negative, so don’t @ me.

Now, I’ve heard Adri...gami is canon. That’s great, what isn’t great is that Adri...nette is still going and that Alya keeps pushing it. Idk, it just... is weird. I think I actually would prefer Adri...gami to not be canon, even if it’s one of my fave ships currently. Is it true that there’s cheating undertones? Omfg. Oh and Noir getting over Bug is great but the rose thing was unnecessary and I’m tired of their weird dynamic. Their relationship is all screwed over. I wish they just were platonic partners tbh. Both Mari’s love for Adrien and Noir’s love for Bug are unhealthy.

I strongly dislike the concept of regular non-magical superheroes in the Miraculous universe. It’s just me, I know, I’m not saying it isn’t good. It’s just that I hate it. I’d prefer it if they had Miraculouses.

Regarding characters, I loved that Sparrow was a girl; I already thought about that concept before and was planning on using it on a QK fic. I really like that they added two woc as heroes, tho I heard from poc (I’m white) that some things are problematic (Aeon being a robot instead of a human girl plays onto anti-Black stereotypes that Black people aren’t human; plus, she becoming a white-colored superhero is... something; Jess being Native American but not having any tribe, just being generic and getting the Eagle, the Miraculous of freedom, being kinda tone-deaf). Miraculous has problems portraying woc and it shows. I’m pretty sure Marinette is written as white most of the time, even if she’s mixed. Idk what is it but Olympia hurts my eyes. Both her civilian and hero forms. I hate her design and I don’t know why. Barbara is good, tho, she looks so intimidating and I’m here for it. I heard they’re a couple, which I’d love but, is it canon? I hope so! Camilla’s design is ok, what’s interesting is that she’s literally Michelle Obama. Both Jess and Aeon’s civilian designs are incredibly cute, I really really like them. Uncanny Valley... Idk, white and gold aren’t really a match in my opinion.

Now. What I don’t really like... I loved Sparrow. The entire concept of her being a masc-presenting girl hero. The concept of sparrows too. Sparrow was my fave QK. But Jess now has a Miraculous, the eagle. I find it heartbreaking cuz I loved Sparrow! Besides, I don’t like Eagle’s costume nor mask, it looks kinda bland compared to Sparrow’s. Eagle’s powers are interesting, tho, but I had freedom as Horse’s concept in my headcanon so I’m kinda dwjkdjkkwk right now.

Oh and I don’t even want to talk about the space outfits of Bug and Noir. What are they? Impostors? Jk, but I think they are kinda mediocre.

Oh and Jess can join Kagami in having disappointing transformation sequences!

Errr, I think I’ll watch Jess’ and Aeon’s scenes just to know more about their personalities, but that’s it. Those two are the most interesting characters of this special to me, and I heard that their characterization revolves around Adri...nette so... ew. I hope we find out more about the Native American box guardian and the new Miraculous... but I’m afraid we don’t even know everything about the Chinese ones.

And by the way, if I’m mistaken or out of my lane when talking about Jess and Aeon’s portray problems, feel free to let me know and I’ll educate myself!
