Oh right that.

So, the ghouls really aren't supposed to stay topside for very long. They're meant to be summoned, do their task, and get sent back.

And...none of them have been so far.

Chain, in my HC being the eldest of them, has hit a point where he's now blind in daylight (can see perfectly in the dark though!) and is mute (Delta uses his quintessence to communicate with him telepathically). His mind isn't 100% there. He's lucid for the most part, but he's been up here for far too long and does have moments of being feral. So he hides in the underground labyrinths of the abbey away from everyone (with Delta, incoming second crack ship choo choo).

His skin is falling apart, his coral horns and gills have started to lose their shimmer and he looks sickly and weak (As you saw by the art).

He hasn't always looked this way, maybe I'll draw him when he was first summoned and happy.

Unfortunately, this will happen to every ghoul eventually.

Omega forgets things sometimes and loses control of his quintessence, resulting in accidentally reading people's thoughts until it becomes oppressive and too loud. This worsens considerably after Terzo's death.

Alpha gets more and more emotionally volatile, which, when you consider he's already ill-tempered and fire is controlled by emotion, isn't great (And even Ifrit isn't enough to soothe him at that point). Earth is already gone, though not sent back... more on that later. Sad Primo hours. And Aero? No one has seen him for a long time. They're not even sure he's still here or nothing more than a whisper on the wind.

The memory is often first to go, then their glamour starts to break apart until they can't hold a human form anymore.

But no one knows if that's enough for the clergy to send them back to the pits.

Only time will tell.
