Zenos had locked himself away in his quarters after the 'conversation' with Eclair, and brooded away for several hours over what had been said. Maybe she had a point. He'd never say such a thing to her directly, his pride wouldn't allow that, but he could do something and make it seem entirely as if it was his idea all along.

He was a Galvus. He had tricks, too.

He penned a quick note to Mory asking her to see him in his quarters, and he made himself look as unthreatening as he could. Armour was shed in favour of his black shirt and trousers, he set out a vase of roses (his mother would understand the missing blooms from her garden), and he sat cross-legged on his bed to wait.

If she got the wrong idea at the same time, well... that would probably work out in his favour, anyway.

It had been nearly a moon with no word, and by all rights Moryera ought to have been ecstatic. If Sebastien had really disappeared for good, he would take all of her problems with him. No more linkpearl calls at all hours whenever he'd run himself low on aether and needed to recharge. No more lewd comments that she knows he doesn't really mean. Most importantly, no more worry about getting her cover story mixed up in front of the wrong person and having it discovered that she's working for an imperial. Sure, she could tell the Eorzean authorities she was just working for the one of them, and it would even be the truth. 'It was only a little treason'. That would work so well, she's sure...

But she didn't need to think about that anymore. Sebastien must have finally picked a fight he couldn't win. She's free now.

And yet...

That also meant no more secret missions that would make anyone else laugh in her face should she even suggest them. No one else who understood the sheer electrifying thrill of pushing yourself to your limits, of dancing with certain death. No one watching over to keep that death from catching up with her--oh, Mory was no fool, she knew it was only because replacing her as an aether source would be a tedious annoyance. But what did it matter why he protected her? It still made him the only person she could think of who actually gave a damn what happened to her.

Maybe she'd try the linkpearl one more time. Just in case.

(Post-4.2) "I...heard you were doing a bit better so I brought you something to eat?" Moryera calls from just outside the doorway, waiting a few moments before entering as if afraid she's going to have something thrown at her for daring to bother the injured prince.

His response was a grunt. Zenos sat up slowly from where he lay, and he rested his elbows against his knees once he was situated. He watched carefully as Moryera entered, a faint smirk upon his lips, and he patted the bed next to him.

“Sit,” Zenos said, his voice quiet and hoarse. “Forgive me. Speaking is difficult.”

There was an awkward silence for several long moments before he ventured: “How... are you feeling?” He didn’t even ask about the food. He wasn’t really hungry, but his pride wouldn’t let him simply admit that he was glad to see her, nor to say the things he wanted to.

If Mory’s aether hadn’t been well-known by him by now, Zenos would have turned on her. Instead he sat very, very still, tense, like a trap waiting to be sprung.His hair was very soft, and as soon as Zenos realized what she was doing, he rumbled, “I will allow this,” and he relaxed – though not much. It took a bit longer for him to do that, and to let down his guard enough to close his eyes. The prince’s breathing slowed as long as she touched his hair, though as soon as she stopped his eyes opened halfway and he’d regard her like a cranky cat.

When he uses that voice with her, low and calm and resonant, she’s on her knees before the word has even fully passed his lips. It loses something, perhaps, small as she is—nowhere near tall enough to reach anywhere important when she’s kneeling before him—but oh, what an intoxicating sight, her lover staring down at her from such dizzying heights...

She looks back up at him through half-lidded eyes, waiting obediently for anything else he might command her to do.

From her usual spot in Sebastien’s lap, Mory reaches one hand up to brush away the stray blond locks that have slowly grown long enough to fall into her eyes and not just his. She pauses to twirl a bit of silky hair around one finger, fascinated at how it remains so soft when the person it belongs to is anything but. Well. Around anyone else, anyway. She knows better.

“At this rate, your hair will be longer than mine before long. ...I, um, actually sort of like it...”
