Gojo first bought some souvenirs (food) and then he came to Megumi’s location.
After he had bought (after buying) souvenirs, he came here.
I remember asking my friend how to sequence events in my daily routines. I kept saying あとで all the time. My friend told me to use 前に (before), てから (after), [hour]に, and 時に (when) as well.
てから vs. 後で (あとで)
Both can be translated to “after; later; then”
てから suggests that both activities sort of depend on each other. て suggests that the activity marked with it must really happen first. The second one might not happen until the one with て happens first. When you connect verbs with て, the nuance is that they happen in the exact order as you place them in a sentence. 読んで、食べて、飲んで = first I read, then I eat, then I drink.
後で doesn’t imply anything of that sort. It’s like saying I usually do this after that, but it’s not a rule. If the first activity happens, cool. If it doesn’t, cool.
