Afunakwa - Rorogwela (Solomon Islands, Fataleka and Baegu Music, Malaita)
There's isn't many ways to go about it. I will take it heavily (in a positive or negative way) but that can't deter you. A blunt, face-to-face "I'm pregnant" would be my choice but then, I have never been and never will be in your situation.
Yeah, I’ll figure something out lol
Not sure their only goal is the get a reaction. Maybe some are, and maybe some feel genuine moral outrage, though unwarranted in my opinion. In any case, as long as you're having fun with it. And you do get a fair amount of support as well, so that's good. I'm on the side of those who think you haven't done anything reprehensible, but do consider your options carefully. The decision's a big one. Good luck
Yeah that’s true. I won’t be making any decisions just yet, I still need to tell the father what’s happening... I don’t really know how to have that conversation though.
You're getting so much vitriol over this. People turn nasty when they think there's some moral beacon they can uphold. I don't see what you've done wrong though. Not sure where the drug thing comes from but as long as you've stopped taking substance that might endanger the future baby's life once you learned about being pregnant, there's hardly anything else you can do. The whore thing is even more senseless to me but I guess that's a common resort when you even imply you're sexually active
Hahaha I know.
The drug and drinking thing stemmed from the fact that I have taken drugs and been drinking heavily in the weeks leading up to this day... but I had no idea I could even BE pregnant, so its hardly my fault. They’re just trying to get a reaction out of me, their arguments make no sense at best... but I like playing along because its fun.
Afunakwa - Rorogwela
Young brother, young brother you be quiet
Although you are crying to me
Your father has left us
He has gone to the place of the dead
Protect the head of the living,
Protect the orphan child
Afunakwa "Rorogwela" (1969/70)
Track of the Day #507 Oceania. Solomon Islands. In 1969 a woman by the name of Afunakwa was recorded (by ethnomusicologist Hugo Zemp) singing a Baeggu language lullaby named "Rorogwela".
"Young sibling, young sibling, be quiet. You are crying, but our father has left us. He has gone to the place of the dead, To protect the living, to protect the orphan child."
This recording was eventually sampled for chart success, raising questions of cultural appropriation and copyright, with the family of Afunakwa (now sadly passed-away) having never received any payment from this... But the beauty of the original remains, and for that we should all be thankful.
