No one should ever be uncomfortable with where they're from or what they are

Yet we use digs at other people to try and pull ourselves up

We bring them down to our level

So we can all suffer the same

But that's not what we should be aiming for

I want to lift them up

To use privilege to drop down a ladder

Not be brought down from the pedestal of

Basic human decency

So I too can experience the feeling of other

So I know what it's like to hate part of myself

That I can never change

There shouldn't be a pedestal

On that we can agree

But I would rather raise everyone up

So the floor becomes level

Rather than knock others down

So the pedestal gets lower

Basic human decency is the bar we should be aiming for

Not the thing we go below

Everyone deserves respect

And not everyone gets it

But that doesn't mean you should treat someone without it

The wrong is in treating them as lesser

And it is a great wrong

So let's try again without being cruel

Let's try to highlight the wrong done to some without demonising others
