Thank you @onthewaytosomewhere @hgejfmw-hgejhsf @welcometololaland for tagging me! And I see you @orchidscript and @indestructibleheart with ya open tags ;)
So I might have written my first-ever a03 fic a few weeks ago and then I came back to it today and changed it all up because I didn't outline it and so here is some of it. Full thing (minus the final chapter) lives here and it is very silly and I am very scared thank you.
I've never written anything about transformation, shapeshifting, etc., before, so just a disclaimer that I have no idea what happened here. I just thought grumpy groundhog Alex would be fun to write. And he didn't disappoint. Definitely feel free to skip if it's not your thing! Also, I was inspired by a children's book for this ... sorry?
“Up you get,” he said, getting to his knees and gesturing to his lap.
“What the fuck? You are not carrying me,” Alex protested.
“I’ll admit I’m not keen on the idea of carrying a potentially rabid, toothy woodland creature in my arms, but unless you were thinking of a crate, I fail to think of a better solution.”
“You are NOT putting me in a fucking crate like a goddamn turkey!” Alex scream-squealed. The man seemed to be using every inch of restraint as he took a deep breath.
“I’d prefer not to, which is why I suggest you hop on up.” He opened his arms wide. “I have a blanket I’ll be hiding you under, in case that helps.”
“How would that help?” Alex muttered, waddling over to the man’s perfectly fitted jeans and wishing desperately that his first time sitting on this lap could have gone differently. He was then scooped up in a way that did not make Alex’s rodent heart pitter-patter quickly. The man draped said blanket over Alex, opened the dorm room door with one hand, and let it close behind them.
“What are you going to say if anyone sees you carrying me?” Alex squeaked out.
“I’m really hoping nothing, but that might change if they hear all the noises you’re making,” the man hissed. “It also won’t help that I appear to be talking to the squirming lump in my arms, so I must insist that you kindly shut up.”
Alex gave a pointed huff that couldn’t be interpreted as adorable. He focused his attention on the strong pair of arms carrying him, and the clean, woodsy scent that enveloped him. It was definitely a groundhog thing, but Alex felt like burrowing into that scent and hibernating in it all winter long.
I know it’s late so I’m sorry if I missed something you posted! Sending good vibes and no-pressure tags -- I know y'all have lives, I just like you -- to:
