meme from somewhere in here | accepting!! @agarwaen sent: you don't deny that, do you? raphael to manfred
“It’s pretty hard not to. Denying that would be like denying a part of myself. It's the parts I should have embraced a long time ago."
It was true. Manfred was half-demon. Even without any knowledge of his biological father and whatever messed up genes he’d contributed to the psychic-medium bloodline, he still had demon blood coursing through him. If his great grandmother hadn’t made a deal with Colconnar to have his child in exchange for her wellness, things might have been completely different.
“There’s parts of me I don’t know. Things I’m still figuring out. Abilities that seem to - ” He stopped talking and looked up sharply at the stranger standing there.
Something was off about him, but he couldn’t figure out what. Maybe it was how causal he seemed around Manfred’s use of his displayed powers, how he’d been able to push a ghost back into its corpse. Or perhaps how the man didn’t seem phased by the knowledge that psychic-mediums existed.
One thing he couldn’t figure out was why it had taken him so long to realize he’d voluntarily given away so much information about himself. “I’m sorry. Who are you?”

I wonder if isn’t it closer to what the dragon-helm of Dor-lómin was supposed to look like?
I’ve seen some nice arts by Alan Lee (and others of similar style), however, are they really that close to a description of dwarf-helmet which were noted for their grim masks? (where does such idea of depiction of this helmet come from?)
Given Tolkien’s interests, I guess it’s somewhat likely that the inspiration for the dragon-helm were some Vendel-age “crested helmets” (featuring “dragon-crests” as well as fitting the description of dwarvish“masked” helmets)
Though of course Khuzdul has a lot in common with real-life Semitic languages (which however doesn’t really fit the “Eddic” names of some dwarves)
