Bat to the heavens is the third game at AGDQ 2026!!! so crazy to see my own game here... good luck spirialis on the run and go fast!!

AGDQ starting off strong this year
I think a game developer actively attempting to troll their game's speedrunning community could never come up with something as funny as Super Metroid's "save the animals" choice.
A "Good Ending" that amounts to one choice made only after the final boss has been defeated, too small a difference to ever be made into it's own distinct category, but a large enough detour that doing it is a guaranteed time loss, but a small enough detour that a skilled speedrunner will never fail at it and always theoretically has the opportunity to do it at the end of a normal run. With the only acknowledgement within the game being a two pixel sprite flying across the screen for a split second during the standard ending cutscene, but also later entries confirming that two-pixels-flying-across-the-screen ending is unambiguously canon.
It's a perfect storm.
finished up my final stream tech shift at gdq! here's a short summary of how they went:
Thinking about back in 2018 on that stupid little app called Vent (if you remember, you understand) I made a post commenting on the lack of trans male speedrunners and how the speedrunning community only seems to have cis men, trans women and cis women. I was disappointed about how little representation trans men have in speedrunning in general and I ended up getting dogpiled on, being called transmisogynistic. Just because I was upset of the lack of trans men in one of my favorite things. Things really haven't changed since 2018 it seems.
