Telraam is a citizen-powered solution for collecting multi-modal traffic data with a purpose-built, affordable, and user-friendly device.

The Telraam sensor continuously monitors a street from a citizen’s window, providing crucial data on various modes of transport, including motorised vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, and more. Telraam networks also create the opportunity for dialogue between traffic planners, local authorities and their most affected communities: the citizens who live on - and use - these streets by turning traffic counting into an open and accessible citizen science project. We find it meaningful for people who care about how to contribute to their surroundings and understand more how data can shape the future of our cities.

People who have affordable and accessible health care, clean air, and economic stability have a greater chance of managing and controlling their asthma. AAFA’s Asthma Capitals™ Report ranks the largest 100 cities in the continental U.S. by how challenging they are to live in when you have asthma. AAFA publishes this report to show the nationwide burden of asthma. It is a call to action to help the 25 million people in the U.S. with asthma.

Artificial intelligence model can detect Parkinson’s from breathing patterns

A new device can detect Parkinson's disease just from breathing patterns. The device, developed by a team led by Dina Katabi of MIT, em

MIT researchers demonstrated that the artificial intelligence assessment of Parkinson's can be done every night at home while the person is asleep and without touching their body.

To do so, the team developed a device with the appearance of a home Wi-Fi router, but instead of providing internet access, the device emits radio signals, analyzes their reflections off the surrounding environment, and extracts the subject’s breathing patterns without any bodily contact.

The breathing signal is then fed to the neural network to assess Parkinson’s in a passive manner, and there is zero effort needed from the patient and caregiver.

Technology like this is an ideal example of what we define as the Internet of Caring Things allowing carers to care about sufferers without using cerebrospinal fluid and neuroimaging, which are invasive, costly, and require access to specialised medical centers, making them unsuitable for frequent testing that could otherwise provide early diagnosis or continuous tracking of disease progression.
