             it wasn’t even 8 a.m. yet and hotch was already having a DIFFICULT morning. he’d been in the office since just past 6 a.m. for an international call that had been coordinated last minute, and had his phone ringing well before SUNRISE. interpol was sending an agent to help with background in the development a profile for a killer who had just emigrated from spain, he’d been assured that the agent was well-trained, knowledgeable, and would be an asset to his team - not a HINDRANCE.              they’d need the help if the UNSUB kept to his timeline. for 6 weeks leading up to the first body being found in a washington park, this man had left an ocean of blood and a trail of bodies down the eastern coast of the valencia province. security had called him when the agent arrived, so he’s waiting by the elevator when the door opens.  ❝SSA hotchner,❞ he gestures down the hallway,  ❝welcome to the behavioral analysis unit, you’ll be working in the briefing room with me to COORDINATE the team in the field. I’ll show you the way.❞ no time is wasted in small talk, maybe they’ll have time for pleasantries after they catch this bastard.

“I don’t understand what there is to worry about,” he said as he wrapped his hand in strips of cloth bandages. His knuckles were still a bit bloody and draped in red and purple bruises. Ethan stared down, eager to keep himself occupied so he wouldn’t have to look at Kinsey. That he had even made her worried stung him like a horde of angry wasps. Who was he to make her feel a sense of unease? His shoulders were pulled in tight and his large frame shrunk down in shame. He kept his head down, his dark hair hanging down like a curtain to keep his gaze from meeting hers.

“If I went missing nothing would really change. I’m fine anyways, I’ve dealt with worse. Someone like you shouldn’t be worrying about someone like me.”

Everything about life outside of New Eden was new and exciting in some way. It had been so many years since he’d lived any other way that it all felt like the first time he’d seen something different. The distant memories of the time before New Eden were limited. It had made him bold in ways he hadn’t anticipated. There was a sense of freedom in the outside world he had never felt before. There was also, thankfully, a sense of privacy too. For once he had solid walls and doors. He didn’t have to worry about being seen or heard in an intimate moment. Finally he could indulge in peace.

The best thing about leaving New Eden, though, was Kinsey. No matter where he was, he knew he’d feel at home with her. Something about her embrace was so welcoming that in many ways that was better than the way her lips brushed against his. He could stay enveloped in her arms forever. Home was with her.

She felt so warm. So soft. He knew she wasn’t delicate, but he feared one wrong move would break her. Maybe that was just because he felt like some kind of monster when compared to her. She was the beauty to his beast. How some creature as beautiful as Kinsey could look upon some creature like him with such tenderness he couldn’t explain. The fact that she was willing to touch him was something he didn’t dare question.

He ran his hands down her back, his arms wrapped tight around her body. He clung to her as if he was afraid she’d slip between his fingers. Hard and heavy heartbeats pounded in his chest. Warm, red skin betrayed how nervous and excited he was. His eyes stayed shut. Ethan felt as thought he couldn’t look at Kinsey and touch her like this at the same time; it would simply be too much to bear. 

Their lips fit together perfectly. He didn’t need anyone else to compare it to. He just knew it felt right to be with her. The gentle caress of her kiss was heavenly. In return, all he could do was push up against her harder, craving more of that amazing feeling. The way her hot, humid breaths escaped against his skin almost made him sweat. It was a reminder of how close they were and of how human he felt. When Ethan was with Kinsey he was treated like a person, and like a man. This was someone who saw something in him, and now she was giving him access to intimacy. He was beginning to understand why people would fall in love in someone. Now he knew just how much one person could mean to him.

He was too nervous to try and see or feel what lay beneath Kinsey’s clothes. The thin barrier seemed to taunt him. Their bodies touched, but still there was something left to the imagination. There was one last bastion to keep him from being totally exposed; even though he wanted to remove the layers of fabric between them to do so would mean letting himself be vulnerable. He wanted to, oh how desperately he wanted to, but the mere thought of admitting to that out loud sent goosebumps down his spine. Instead he settled on gripping the back her shirt and locking their legs together, her thigh between his own. All he could do for a moment was breath heavily, lungs desperate for oxygen as his heart rapidly pumped his blood all throughout his body. 

The denim of Ethan’s own pants felt strange and constricting to him. His state of arousal didn’t help matters, and it was uncomfortably obvious to him that eventually he’d have to do something about it. Whether that meant stopping entirely or something else he wasn’t sure, but he didn’t want to make an assumption and be wrong. The painful thought of potentially being rejected in any way pierced through him like a spear. The risk was too great, so he decided to endured the discomfort. It was worth it. Ethan just hoped she wouldn’t notice how his legs quivered against her. He pressed his hips up against her leg and rocked back and forth slightly. He wasn’t even aware he was doing it, not entirely. It wasn’t enough to relieve much of his arousal, but it did elicit some whines, whimpers, and moans from him. He tried to stay quiet, worried that his sounds would threaten to drive her away. They weren’t sounds he was used to making and he hoped they weren’t unusual. He had no idea if he was doing any of this well or even correctly, but he wanted to try. 

He pulled his face away from hers so he could lean down to kiss her neck. He could smell her hair. She smelled good, like melons or flowers. It was a sweet smell. The crook of her neck made a good hiding spot, too; he could keep his face hidden somewhat. The small string of moans he let out felt embarrassing. With the way they were positioned he was certain she could feel just how erect he was. There was no way to be this close and not notice it. The fact that he could feel her thigh pressing against his erection meant she could probably feel him against her leg. That only made his face a deeper shade of red. 

“I-I’m sorry,” he whispered, “am I being too loud? Do you want me to stop?”

    “Nah! Don’t worry! You’re good! You’re so good!” Staci jumped back away from the person in front of him. Stranger. That meant a new person. New people! In Hope County! Damn! Alright! That’s good! That’s cool! Just kidding that’s very very concerning. Nobody comes to Hope County for no reason. And when people do these things, when people just show up and there’s no real rhyme or reason to why they show up. They don’t try to make some big introduction. They just...show up.

    “You good?” He smiled and scratched the back of his neck, stepping closer to the stranger. As far as he could tell, she wasn’t like him. She wasn’t like a lot of people there. “What’s got you in Hope for? Work? Vacation?”
