“Grew up in an apocalyptic future where everything was constantly on fire and being wrecked by a giant fire demon. Had to regularly fight this fire demon. Was tasked with time traveling to the past to kill a man in order to stop the apocalypse. His job is time traveler and he has to go to the past whenever his future becomes terrible again in order to keep preventing apocalypses. He is 14 years old”

Agito:  This whole movie is just an exercise in Agito whump and trauma i’m so serious. They put this boy through so much, physically and emotionally. He almost drowns multiple times in the first 15 minutes. He has various other near death experiences. He loses his father after being his caretaker for years. He gets kicked off a cliff and thrown into a fight with a military state’s war machines after only just gaining super powers. he gets knocked out by tranquilizer gas and chained to a cell wall with huge shackles. He gets into a train crash. He gets beaten up (kneed in the face repeatedly) pretty bad by the antagonist, He turns himself fully into a tree in an act of self sacrifice that saves the other main character and enables her to save his village from destruction(but he comes back through a fruit growing on the tree he turned into, so he’s alive by the end) 

Propaganda!

Agito: Agito has one of the most transgender allegory (in terms of a physical transition) character arcs i’ve ever seen. He is running around in a crop top that looks like a binder, fighting a military state that wants him dead. His arc is about bodily autonomy and transformation. Said transformation was one he wanted for a while and actively undergoes (and that’s how he gets his white hair, super strength and the binder crop top) He’s told by the other main character, who sees his transformation as something to pity, to fix, she tells him that maybe they can return his body to “normal” and he makes it clear he likes being this way. The movie’s narrative sides with Agito on this, including a memory Agito sees of his father telling him that he is stronger enough as he is, and he is proud to have him as a son. Did I mention Agito is part tree now? And can grow roots and branches out of his body. He’s the most twink. Everyone in the movie is taller than him and this is never an issue or a joke. He’s just a little guy and it’s great. I am going to steal his gender. I love sweetheart sincerely good boys so much.

Did a ferngully rewatch and i’m thinking thoughts

Genuinely love when the crop top wearing protagonist turns the villain(who is bent on destroying the forest) into a tree through self sacrifice and then is reborn through a plant on that tree

Also magical mentor advice from an older woman who has the same powers

Have I talked about the Agito x Toola rock climbing? No?

Ok so Agito’s intro scene where he races Cain down to the well, he free climbs the side of a ruined building in order to try to get ahead in the race. He proceeds to slip off the wall and land directly on his ass. He also climbs up the stayfeild structure which is both not built for climbing and where he accidentally finds Toola. In several other scenes his draw towards climbing is shown. He loooves it. Even when he almost dies from it every two seconds. He also loves parkour.

In a scene towards the end of the film Toola free climbs a very steep and shaky rock wall in order to get back to where Agito is. (If you know you know) She almost gets crushed by falling rocks in the process but adrenaline pushes her on and she reaches the top.

I don’t think Toola enjoyed her climb in that case but she still had the skills to do it in the first place. I like that they both have that skill and that it gets showcased like this.

I want to put these two in climbing harnesses and let them explore some ruins where they can climb together, helping each other where the other struggles. Please attach them by a rope and carabiners thank you
