Oooo, for the whump ask game, 5! How do your characters express pain?
MMPH I missed/forgot about this, a thousand apologies, please forgive
Ahana: well, we know how Ahana reacts to pain! She subscribes to the "never let 'em see you sweat" school of philosophy. Smile through it. Act unaffected. Make a joke. At worst, grit your teeth and breathe and persevere.
Unless it goes so far that none of this helps, so far that you finally break. In which case make it everyone else's problem.
Nico: Nico CAN do the stoic thing, and he has; with Vivian, for example, he didn't let on that he felt any pain, because he didn't want Michael to feel bad. With his martial arts background, he's done enough sparring that normal wear and tear doesn't actually bother him that much, even before getting his powers.
However. He prefers to react to pain! Even overreact, depending on context. "Ow ow ow motherfucker ow!!" is a series of words that had exited his mouth in the past! Part of it is projecting a goofy funny persona. Part of it is coming across as harmless - he can be hurt! Part of it, a very small part, is wanting his pain to be taken seriously - he is very hard to harm or kill, yes! That doesn't mean shit doesn't hurt!
Bastian: Bastian screams unreservedly or suffers in silence as the mood takes him. He's learned the hard way that no possible reaction from him will change the treatment he receives in any way, so if it helps relieve pain to scream, he'll scream. If he's exhausted, he doesn't. It doesn't really matter.
Serafina: Fina loves to fight. Win or lose, she loves it. Pain is adrenaline and adrenaline is wild laughter and manic grins. She gets a little loopy when she's hurt; not in a masochist way, not really, just. Things get a little sparkly, and she uses that energy to fight back.
