Lana Winters was a mystery to many, closed off, crass, unapologetically herself. It irked many, It was the reason she was in this damned place in the first place. You had been asked by Sister Jude to come in and help her out. Help her get rid of this sickness called homosexuality.
You had gone into psychology because the working of the human brain interested you, it was something that had you curious and you wanted to know how to help people with their problems when they had them. You were one of the first women in your field period, so you were used to taking some shit.
Nothing had really prepared you for Sister Jude and Doctor Arden though, the fact that he refused to even acknowledge the fact that you were a doctor just like him irked you. You got used to it easily enough though.
When you came in, they had Lana on electric shock therapy, which was something you put a stop to the moment you heard of it. Backwards folk here. You also knew, from experience, that being interested in same sex relationships wasn’t something that was bad. It wasn’t a sickness. It was just what the heart wanted, nothing more. Just as normal as a woman liking a man.
So you had your pretend sessions together to please Sister Jude, but mostly you just had some normal conversations. Something, you noticed, Lana was thirsting after badly. Not many people around here could hold an actual conversation.
It was during these conversations that something was beginning to grow. You helped Lana process the fact that her partner put her her. That she put her career above the well-being of Lana. You helped her talk about the shock therapy and all the other things that had been done to her. She in turn helped you see the different sides of life. Her experience in journalism helped her explain the world to you.
The first kiss was sudden and came from Lana. It was after you had helped her talk about something she had buried deep within herself. So you went to hug her, and instead of just normally breaking the hug and sitting down again, she held you and pressed a soft kiss to your lips. It sparked something deep within you and it warmed your heart.
She tried to apologise for it afterwards, but you didn’t let her, you just kissed her again.
After that you tried to be as inconspicuous about it as possible, but you had a feeling Sister Jude was suspecting something, so you started to form a plan. You had to break Lana out of there. Get her away from all this, but you had to do it in a way that they wouldn’t miss her and wouldn’t suspect you.
It took a month or three of planning, but you had convinced the sister that Lana her case was severe and that you needed to treat her in a different clinic, where they had specialists just for her case. She eagerly agreed, wanted rid this place of Lana. Lana had been causing unrest in the place, and she needed it back so that everyone was under her thumb again.
You surprised Lana with the announcement, not wanting to give her false hope if the plan failed. She looked at you with eyes filled with love and hugged you tight when no one could see. she got what little belongings she came in with and walked out with you. You were both free now.
