The Big AI-Satin-Chic Image Generator Comparison!
I have been creating AI art for nearly two years now, and throughout that time I've always looked for ways to improve the quality of each piece - from improved prompts and advanced upscaling, all the way up to high-resolution animations and music. But it all relies on having a good image generator. Poor prompt adherence, or bad understanding of anatomy can quickly ruin an otherwise lovely scene.
Here, I'm comparing 24 different AI image generators/models, most of which I have used at some point. I hope this post helps others choose a model they might like to experiment with. Please bear in mind some are paid, and some are free - not all generators are created equal! I haven't edited or upscaled any of these images - all are "raw" and created at their best quality available to me. No ethnicity/nationality was included in the prompt.
All these images use exactly the same 194-word prompt, with the following details which should appear in each image:
Long dark red hair in a ponytail with a fringe/bangs
Ribbon in her hair
Shy/embarrassed expression
Blue eyes
Ivory satin dress with printed flowers detail and frilled collar (length of the dress not specified)
Big pink petticoat
Red lipstick
She should be lifting the skirt part of her dress to show her petticoat
Detailed tights
Necklace
Stone wall background. Floral archway with people at a night-time garden party through the archway
Satin bow on the back of the dress
The original idea theme of the image was a woman who was nervous about wearing the outfit in front of the garden party attendees.
Recraft: Lots of missed details - can't see her face, dress doesn't look satin and hands are awful. Background completely wrong and not at night. Dress does look rather feminine though. 3/10.
Kling: Very good prompt adherence - most of the main details are there. Hands and stance all believable. Background almost perfect. 9/10.
Grok: A very good effort - many aspects included, although the petticoat looks like it's above the dress - a bit weird. Very pretty natural face and good background. 8/10.
IMG 2 GO (realistic mode): Not great. Hands mangled, dress not as described and she's not holding the dress. A nice scene, but not as prompted. Has a "fuzzy" look to it. 5/10.
Gencraft: Quite tricky to create for free. Looks very "digital", although the hair is nice and lots of elements have been included. Creepy dude in the background. 6/10.
Perchance: This model generally creates quite unique images and this image is no different. Would take a bit of work to fix, but otherwise quite a nice scene. I think the generator got confused by the long prompt! 6/10.
Meta: I think on the whole, Meta has done a great job here - although the AI clearly didn't want her to be displaying her petticoat! Still, many of the elements are here and it's a nice image. Background a bit strange. The animation function made this image particularly good (included at the end of this post). 8/10.
Piclumen (Art): Aside from some strange positioning, the background looks great, but the image itself looks quite digital again. Her body seems slightly out of alignment and the generator went with a tiara, instead of a ribbon. It's a nice image, but not quite what was prompted for. 6/10
Piclumen (Realistic): I've got to say "Art" looked more realistic than the "Realistic" mode. This is probably one of the worse ones. The dress looks nice enough, but the face is terrible, there's no visible petticoat, and she's just standing there. Plus, no garden party in the background - missing a lot from what was asked. 4/10
Reve: Quite mixed on this one - it's another nice image, and many of the elements from the prompt have been picked up. However, it just doesn't "feel" right - there's a few errors in the hands, and the people in the background look very odd too. The hem of the dress just doesn't look right. Nice natural face though. 5/10.
Qwen: "Blue eyes" indeed. A lovely shine on the dress and the background is perfect. Aside from the eyes, this would be a perfectly usable image with minor editing needed. 8/10
Tengr.ai (Hamilton): Looks very similar to Qwen. Another case of going crazy with the bright blue eyes. The prompt adherence is very good, but the image feels a little off - mainly due to the eyes. Not enough "poof" in the petticoat for my liking! 7/10
Playground: Yikes. Truly horrific. Mangled hands, distorted face, colours all over the place. It was even a pain to use. Urgh. 1/10.
GPT-Image-1 (High): Very nice - lots of good prompt adherence and hard to find faults. Only slight issues are her posture and how the petticoat looks under the dress - but it's such a small issue it's hardly worth mentioning. 9/10.
Ideogram: When I first saw this, I just laughed. What an odd image. Sure, it's kept a lot of the prompt, but everything just feels off here. What's going on with those fairylights? 3/10.
Leonardo Phoenix 1.0: A few faults here (such as the ribbons going through her skirt), but overall not too bad. The archway, garden party, nighttime, dress style and many other aspects are in place. Would take a few generations, but this one would probably get there in the end. 6/10.
Seedream 4.0: If it wasn't for the eyes, this would be an otherwise quite nice image. All the elements are there, although the petticoat looks quite odd. The shine of the dress is quite nice, and the background is one of the nicer ones. The eyes could be fixed quite easily. Seedream certainly makes unique-looking images. 6.5/10
Flux Kontext Max: Another "miss" here I think. The image itself is quite nice, but there's issues with the material merging into her back. The dress is believable, but isn't what was prompted. The background is great. 5/10
Lucid Realism: A rather expensive generator to use, so in theory this one should be one of the better ones. I'm not so sure. The "sleeves" seem to separate from the dress. Where is the petticoat? And why is her dress raised unnaturally at the back? Lovely looking material, and the background is almost perfect. Just not quite right. 6/10.
Lucid Origin: Another expensive one to use, and again rather a disappointment. The waist looks completely wrong, and only one of her shoes is heeled. But the face is one of the best so far! Prompt hasn't really been followed as closely as I'd hope. 6/10
Gemini 3 Pro: At the time of writing, one of the newest models available, Gemini 3 pro has probably produced one of the best results too! Every element is there - the expression, the clothes, the "feel" of the image. I especially like the crimp in her hair, even though that wasn't prompted! The only gripe I have is how the petticoat is a bit confused - there's some white edging which doesn't match up. 9/10.
Nano Banana: I wanted to keep these all like-for like, but I accidently created this in a slightly different ratio to the others. Still, it's another fantastic image in my opinion. The prompt has been followed almost exactly and the image is believable and lifelike. I can't fault this one at all and would happily publish this after some very minor touch-ups. 10/10.
@dryndelicate offered some additional model access, running the prompt through two more.
Tengr.ai (Quantum Max): Although Dry sent "optimised" images, I wanted to use the raw image like I had done with the others. This one is very nice and has followed the prompt quite well. Dry's optimisation fixes the issues with the face, but without that, the original image is let down by the face. Very good background. One of the only ones to have a longer dress, missing the tights detail. 7.5/10
Flux Dev: Pretty good general prompt adherence, although the dress is a little off - only the sleeves are satin. However, the shimmer on the dress is very nice. The face, hair and background are all really good. 7.5/10.
Notable mentions:
Bing: blocked (had to shorten prompt down to fit limits) 0/10
MS Designer: blocked (had to shorten prompt down to fit limits) 0/10
DeviantArt DreamUp: prompt limit too short 0/10
Here's the animated version of the Meta one - cheeky!
Let me know what you think - putting this together took ages! If nothing else, I hope you have enjoyed the images.
