can you explain what the aidsummer 3-week program is?
The one I applied for was 3~4 weeks.
Basically, it's a volunteer program where you go to rural areas in Taiwan and teach English to (often aboriginal) Taiwanese kids.
The admission process is somewhat intensive, with a lot of stuff you have to fill out and specific deadlines. I didn't get in, so I can't tell you about anything after that, besides what I know from my brother (who did the program in 2010).
The first week is training to teach, and assignment to whatever camp. Some people are sent to Taichung, some to Tainan, but I think mostly in Taitung. (Taidong? Sorry, I don't know the Wade-Giles for it.) After that, you teach for 2 weeks. After that, there's an optional tour around Taiwan, where you get to go to all the major cities, I believe. I think they might tour the coastline? Not sure. That's why you can go for either 3 or 4 weeks.
Aid Summer prefers people who are in college and already have volunteering experience. I'm sure they also prefer people who can speak Chinese fairly well, though I think the English component is more important.
That's all that comes to mind for now. Ask me again if I didn't answer something~
did u get off the taiwanaid wait list?
I was never on the waitlist for Aid Summer. I was just flat-out rejected LOL.
However, I signed up for SCLP/OCAC BEFORE Aid Summer, and I got waitlisted on that. I was number 5 on the waitlist, and I got in.
might go back to taiwan for ocac 2012
FUCKING YES FUCK YEAHHH OH MY GOD IF I FUCKING GO I WILL LIKE PUNCH BABIES OUT OF HAPPINESSSSSS
sorry i'm just really happy
i'm not expecting the same mind-blowingness as 2010 (actually, 2010 had a lot of its own downfalls) but hey i might as well enjoy it
so yeah if i don't go for ocac 2012 then i'm going for aid summer 2012
yeah
who else is going lol
