Hummingbirds get their wild coloring from ‘air-filled pancakes’ of their feathers
In birds, melanosomes, that are little packets of melanin pigment surrounded by keratin protein create this iridescence impact. They’re present in tiny filaments known as barbules, which department off of the principle barbs that line the shaft of a feather, equally to leaves sprouting from the branches of a tree. People have melanin and keratin in our hair, pores and skin, and nails, however (sadly) they will’t create such fabulous colours. Read the full article
