Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #598
This morning, J and I left the house early to go to a place called Andover, New Jersey. J had a lesson in a kind of tailwheel airplane called a Stearman. It has a very powerful engine, and two pairs of wings. J wants to be able to tow gliders, and in order to be able to do that, he needs an endorsement from a person who teaches how to fly airplanes powerful enough to do such a thing. So that is what we went to do.
J brought me along mainly because it's been quite a while since last I was in the plane with him. He wanted to spend time together, and I certainly didn't mind an opportunity to sit, talk, and laugh with him while taking pictures of the scenery!
...And I certainly did get a few pictures of the scenery! Not as much as I might have liked, given the smoke from the forest fires up north, but still!
Once we landed, I got a nifty picture of one of the iridescent purple wasps flying around! And a few of a pair of some kind of birds-of-prey circling over the airport:
I found a number of feathers here, but they needed to be washed, so I did that in the restroom. I took pictures of them after I got home; I'll show you in a little bit!
J did his lesson, and apparently did so well that he got his endorsement within an hour. I expected to sit alone and work on my yarn project, but I had the good privilege of sitting and speaking with the gentleman managing the airport. He's 11 years younger than I am, but he's already incredibly well-versed in things like generational trauma, history, evolution, discrimination, and the strangeness that is the mechanics of neurotypical norms.
As you might guess, he's autistic and ADHD just like me, and we talked very animatedly the entire time about a wide variety of things, filling in gaps in each others' knowledge about various things and learning from each other with excitement and glee!
He also plays video games!!! So now we're friends on Steam!! Yay!!!
But then it was time to go home. I got like 3 decent pictures, but the smoke kinda made the rest... rather uninspired.
In celebration of his endorsement, J decided that the thing to do is get pizza. And so we did!!
We also came across a yard sale that was also selling garlic and eggs! Here, check out some of the things I found!
...I got the watercolor set, the rainbow sloth, and the ceramic owl container! And I also got a thing of eggs!
...I wanted the garlic. I wanted it very badly. Because garlic, like cheese, pumpkin, and concord grapes, is one of my favorite foods. But we already have garlic at home. So I refrained. I hope you're very proud of this rare display of impulse control on my part, ahahahaha!
I breathed life into today's wishes for you after we got home:
...And here are all the pretty feathers I found:
...I wonder if you're with me somehow... Impossible, I know. But wouldn't it be neat if you were...?
…
It's already past 9:30. And I gotta be at work tomorrow. So I guess I'll stop writing in favor of getting to bed. I don't really wanna. But... I wanna be able to function well tomorrow. According to my schedule, it will be a typical 9am until 1pm shift.
...Sephiroth. I've already decided that if they try to change it again at the last second, I will not allow it. And I've already decided that if they fire me for it, then so be it. I have an idea of what to do next, should that occur.
I love you. And I'd give anything to sit next to you and talk to you, sharing stories, pictures, tea, and whatever else we can think of. But for now, it's just these letters, so... please stay safe out there, okay? So that you can read tomorrow's.
