Rules: list the meanings of your OCs’ names
(I'm doing this for Breaking the Boundary guys, obvisouly)
Ryan - tbh there's no deep meaning behind me choosing this name, I just really like it, and I think it's a good name for a protagonist. Its actual definition is "little king", which kinda fits him, I guess?
Sasha - the diminutive of Aleksandra. Again, I just really love all forms of the name Alexander, which means "defending men". She really is a defender (a guard dog, as Aitner calls her later on).
Jackie - I named her after Jackie Tyler (Rose's mother from Doctor Who). Why? Who can tell! When I first thought of the concept for Jackie's character, Mrs. Tyler popped up in my mind. I guess they have some things in common: take-no-shit attitude, feistiness, readiness to throw hands, they're both blonde…
Aitner - finally something interesting to tell! His original name was Aithne, a name of Irish origins meaning "fire". This word also means "to command" in Old Irish, both perfectly describe Aitner, a creature born out of fire to be commanded. Aitner had two creators: Sorcha, a Gaelic woman, and Yasno, a Slavic woman. The name was given to him by Sorcha, but because they didn't know each others' languages yet (actually, they tried to create someone to fulfill their wishes because they wanted to understand each other more than anything), and Yasno heard it as "Aitner", and that's the form that stuck.
P.S. Sorcha's wish was for them to understand each other and Yasno's wish was to save Sorcha's life, because she was dying. It's a long and romantic story.
Andra - I made it up because I wanted there to be a feminine form of Andrew/Andrey/André (my Dad's name). No other meaning behind it. But I googled it right now and turns outs there's a Romanian singer with this name, and also it's an abbreviation for Australian National Drag Racing Association. Also it's a name of a Russian town. The more you know!
Masara - a name of African origins (unfortunately, I can't find what region it's from) meaning "cause for celebration" and "a magical woman". I wanted her to have a sort of ""shiny"" name, because when I think of Masara I imagine a beautiful bright star.
Kurt - oh, this character had a fun transformation. In the very first draft Andra had two generic bully bodyguards that followed her around, their placeholder names were Kurt and Ram (like in Heathers). Then I decided it's two boring, I want them to be Characters, not human accessories. So I merged two guys into one, gave him a backstory, a personality, and history with Andra and the protags. And the name Kurt stayed.
