A/n:here's the first somnium files post, I had this idea cause I love protective dad date and when I finished nirvana initiative I knew i had to add bibi too, speaking of i'm not sure if i should add a spoiler warning since I guess bibi's existence itself is a spoiler but I don't really say her identity or the plot twist regarding her but just to be safe, spoiler warning for the ending of nirvana initiative

You kept holding onto Mizuki's waist as she parked her scooter in front of her house only leaving it when she took off her helmet

"Ok as long as you don't say anything stupid we should be fine"

"You make it sound like he's gonna interrogate me like a criminal"

"He actually probably will"

"...why?"

"Cause he's an idiot who doesn't understand i'm an adult who can choose partners"

"....oh"

"Don't worry though, I won't let him bother you"

"But i still want to make a good impression, does aiba have any advice on how to impress date?"

"Oh yeah, she was his partner before"

"If you'd like to put him in a good mood I would suggest bringing him a porno magazine"

"So what is it?"

"She said nothing"

"O-oh ok"

"Let's just go"

She opened the door and walked in, you followed her and saw kaname date, Mizuki's father sitting on the couch already glaring at you with his one eye. As well as...another Mizuki sitting directly on top of the couch

"Yo Mizuki"

"B-bibi? You're here too?"

"Of course, i heard you were bringing y/n to meet date so I had to come too. I need to see if he's good enough for you

Bibi, as your girlfriend had called her, smiled at her and now you could see some key differences between them. Bibi was taller and had her equally cyan hair was styled in a large ponytail rather than Mizuki's double braids. Her left eye was also blue instead of yellow but it was clearly another fake ai-ball

"Sorry but who are you?"

"Oh yeah I guess I never told you about her, that's bibi she's my....."

"You can consider me her big sister"

"Really? Big sister? Sorry it's just....the resemblance is so uncanny, you look like twins"

"Yeah we....get that a lot"

"Sit down"

The moment date said that you felt yourself tense up, noticing that Mizuki looked at you and held your hand, sitting down next to you, you could feel the fact that date didn't like that

".....so how long have you been dating?"

"About 5 months"

"You're answering for him?"

"Is there a problem with that?"

"Five months!? And you haven't told me?"

"You never asked"

"You would have kicked my face if I asked you if you got a boyfriend"

"True"

"Anyway, have you two ever held hands?"

".....we're doing it right now"

"Hugged?"

"Yeah, it's a pretty common thing for couples, we do it pretty often"

"Kissed?"

"Eh, are you jealous cause that's more than you'll ever do with a girl? Yeah we do"

"Made out?"

At that Mizuki blushed and looked away

"T-that's none of your business!"

"Yeah they did"

"B-bibi?"

"I saw them, they do sometimes"

"W-what do you mean? Have you been spying on me again?"

"Spying is a big word i'd say...making sure my little sister is safe"

Mizuki glared at her before turning her gaze back to date

"You have your answer"

"Hm one more thing, have you two ever...done it?"

"Done what?"

"Come on you know what I mean"

A few seconds later Mizuki's face turned fully red and she balled up her fist, you could have sworn she saw about to deck date in the face

"Ewwww!! Are you getting off on the thought of two teenagers doing it!? Perverted old man!"

She in fact did try to swing her fist in his direction but got stopped by bibi blocking it with her hand, you had never seen someone come close to her level of strength much less stop one of her punches. they really were sisters

"You're taking his side!?"

"No, I just don't want you to punch him...yet he's just worried about you, this is an important step for both of you"

".....tch, fine, but if he says anything else like that i'll kick him in the balls"

"That's fine by me"

"W-wait what?"

"A-anyway, no we've never done anything like that"

"Y-y/n, you don't have to answer"

"No, I want to, i feel kinda bad letting you answer everything, i'm the one who's meeting your family"

"...y/n"

"That's perfect actually, I have somethings I want to ask you in particular too"

"And i'll be glad to answer them"

Date glared at you again but you kept a smile on your face trying to not seem intimidated so he crossed his arms and sighed

"So how old are you?"

"19, just like mizuki"

"How did you two meet?"

"I was at the park when I heard Mizuki rant to aiba about a case she was working on, I came up to her cause I was interested too and we started working on it together, one thing led to another and now we're together"

"...wait you know about aiba?"

"Yeah Mizuki told me, about abis too"

Date turned to his daughter who already looked pissed off

"You told him about all that!?"

"How else was i supposed to explain why I was talking to myself all the time?"

"You never asked any questions to me before you found out about it"

"Yeah cause I was a child"

Seeing the tension between the two had been reinstated bibi tried to defuse the situation

"I don't think it's that big of a deal personally, after everything that happened these past few years a lot more people know about abis than it should be"

"But what if he's working for some shady people and is only dating you to get information on abis!"

"......do you want me to use the metal pipe instead of kicking you?"

"Look i'm just worried about you Mizuki"

"Do you seriously think i'm so braindead to date someone like that! I can make my own decision and I know y/n is a good guy, plus aiba would have told me if he had anything shady about him"

"I would have and I have found nothing, y/n has no criminal background of any kind and he has never lied to Mizuki about anything meaningful, at least as far as the thermograph can tell"

"See? Listen date let me tell you something. The only reason why we're even doing this meeting in the first place is cause y/n wanted to meet you, i really don't care at all if you approve of him or whatever i'm still gonna keep dating him"

The two kept glaring at each other while you and bibi stood there awkwardly

"....s-should I leave?"

Looking at your expression made Mizuki realize that maybe she should have been nicer, even if only to spare you the embarrassing situation, so she sighed and looked back at date

"Hey....sorry I know you're just being protective but there were better ways than accusing my boyfriend of being a criminal... but i guess i shouldn't have yelled like that either"

".......wait did you actually just apologize? You? Wow y/n must really have had an impact on you"

"....ok no i take back everything I said"

"In all seriousness though, you're right i guess I could have handled that better, but i'm seriously worried about you...but i'm sorry too"

"You actually might have a good influence y/n. I've never seen them make up like this"

"But i'm still not 100% sold on y/n, let me ask him one last thing"

"Just don't make it weird"

He turned to look at you and you could see a more sincere glint in his one non covered eye

"...answer me truthfully. What do you actually really think of Mizuki?"

You could feel all of the eyes in the room turn towards you but you weren't nervous at all as to you the answer was obvious

"I think she's a truly amazing girl. She's so brave and smart and has such a great sense of justice. She really is so unique....in every way and I really love her, everything about her"

Mizuki blushed but quickly tried to hide it

"Y/n you reall-.....i-i mean of course you'd think so"

"....hm...I see, and what do you think of him Mizuki?"

"Hm? Me?"

"Yeah, i want to know your feelings above everything else"

"....well i like y/n too, he's really nice and kind even when i'm not.....the easiest to deal with"

"I never thought you would actually admit to that"

'Shut up i'm trying to have a sweet moment'

"He's just....a really great boyfriend...I definitely love him too"

"Are you sure?"

"....yeah I am"

Date sighed and put his hand behind his head

"Ok i guess there's nothing I can do about that then"

"Hm?"

"I mean if you actually love each other it's not like i'm gonna make you split up, you're both adults"

"And I wouldn't even let you"

"Plus you made Mizuki apologize and recognize her behavior, that has to be a miracle, i'm definitely keeping you around"

"...bastard"

"It's a thumbs up from me too, well I had no doubts since the first time I saw how you treated her"

"....and bibi don't spy on us anymore"

"I have no need for that anymore anyway, even if I am a bit salty that you got a boyfriend before me when i'm 6 years older"

Bibi laughed a bit as Mizuki rolled her eyes

"But one more thing, if you dare hurt Mizuki in any way i'll make sure you get locked in a cell and never see the light of day again"

"No way, i'll kill him before you even know what he did"

"Don't start threatening him, y/n would never hurt me"

"Yeah"

"Cause he knows that if he does i'll beat the crap out of him"

special agent kaname date. someone who's past mixes horribly with his present. someone who's actions, in all honesty, aren't your first option when it comes down to it sometimes. keyword: sometimes.

so when he had insisted it was alright to stay the night on behalf of both your tiring case and the fact that mizuki was staying the night at amame's house for the second time that week, you agreed. not that you ever had anything against the poor kid, but with so little room to sleep within the residence... it had you sighing of relief for the sweet girl. all went well at first. you two had talked, although not about anything too meaningful. a fantastic choice of takeout and a few drinks had you spilling and laughing a little too hard about the stupidest things, as if you didn't have work in the morning. per usual, the clock tricked you with it's talents such as time, like a magician with his casting wand, placing illusions upon the eyes.

so how did it lead to this? seeing your closest friends, your coworkers, all suffering infront of you. you could do nothing as your eyes refuted to close, succumbing to what was so commonly known as a sense of despair creeping, lurking and ready to takeover. you couldn't help it──the continuous tossing and turning in your sleep, accompanied by the groans and shallow breaths you produced as a result of the devastating nightmare probing your mind. so much so, it easily woke date up. he wasn't too much of a heavy sleeper anyways, so don't feel too bad. a flood of fresh air rushed through his lungs as he sat up slowly, groggily, almost as if he had forgotten how to breathe for a mere second. he rubbed his eyes; once, twice, three times to see if the sight infront of him was true. there you lie, on his bed like you were struggling. it took him no time at all to get up from the (un)comfortable couch he slept at and actually approach the situation. "shit...." he muttered, watching for what was clearly too long to be a moment of contemplation as you struggled. it wasn't until something actually coherent came out of your mouth, something unexpected that truly tugged at his heartstrings, maybe a little too hard for his own liking. "date.. please. not you too. don't leave me here." god, that dream must have been one hell of a ride. his body moved before he could think, sitting on the bed next to your sleeping body. his hand easily intertwined itself gently within your hair, stroking with such care and precision. his body relaxed as his eyes softened toward you. this new behavior he was putting on for you, it came so naturally. as if in another life, this was what he would always do, just for you, like it was his only true calling within this cruel world.

it didn't take long for you to calm, breathing slowing down ever so slightly, a small smile creeping up onto your features as if you knew what kind of spell you enacted on the agent. he could only sigh. "if only you knew what you do to me."

aiba has teased him about that night ever since, and constantly reminds him of how his heartbeat increases near you, similarly to when he gets his hands on those magazines of his...

saito is unable to experience love in a normal way, due to his brain deficiency. the only way he experiences pleasure and any sort of excitement is from cruelty – by hurting and killing people!

as his darling, you are of course the main victim of his cruelty. killing you isn't an option, since that would mean saito loses you permanently, so he has to settle for killing those around you and hurting you in the process!

he starts slow, killing people who are just acquaintances of yours. you barely know them, but it still hurts to know that saito killed them.

but the longer you are with him, the more of your friends and family will get hurt! yet leaving him isn't an option either, as saito is going to kill you if you try to escape from him!

killing your loved ones isn't enough for saito either. hurting you physically is something he enjoys as well. while other people cuddle with their partners, saito strangles you, hits you or leaves scars on your body!

yet after every time he does it, he pulls you in his arms to comfort you again. though you suspect he doesn't truly feel sorry and is simply putting on an act, as he isn't capable of feeling empathy…

“i know this might be a crazy idea, but if the killer really did do this, then this might explain the inconsistencies! and if i'm right, then it would narrow our list of suspects down significantly–!”

for the last couple minutes, you've been pointing towards the pin board with all the evidence for your current case, while rambling on about your theories. yet when you turned around, date was just staring at you. he didn't look confused, nor amused. he just… stared.

“what is it…?” you asked, feeling a little uncertain now. “do you not like the theory? i know it might sound far fetched, but–”

“no, nothing wrong with the theory!” date assured you, finally speaking up. he looked at you with a soft smile, before shaking his head a little.

and that only confused you more.

“do i have something on my face then? you're being strange, date. in fact, even more strange than usual!”

date laughed softly, not taking your little insult to heart. instead, he grinned playfully and leaned forward, his eyes glued to your face, as he spoke.

“i just couldn't help but admire the view. you look damn cute when you ramble like that! all worked up about the case… it's pretty sexy!”

you roll your eyes in response, trying not to let date see your amused smile.

“i should've known that's what this is about…”

“LET US OUT OF HERE–!!”

you were woken up by ryuki's yelling, not yet realizing the situation you were in. all you noticed is how dark it was. even as you opened your eyes, it didn't get brighter. and when you tried to stretch and sit up, your limbs soon made contact with the walls of the small room you were in.

“OPEN THE DOOR–!”

there was only a small ray of light shining from underneath what seemed to be the door. ryuki was banging against it and yelling. it took you a couple more seconds, before you realized what was going on: ryuki and you were trapped together!

“w-where are we…?”

you got back up on your feet and ryuki whipped around as soon as he heard your voice. he looked relieved when he saw you were awake. but it was hard to tell in the dark.

“i-i don't know…” he sighed, clearly unsettled by the situation. “when i woke up, we were both in here. tama isn't here either, nor do i have my phone on me! i think… someone kidnapped us!”

you tried to remain calm, but ryuki's words were rather concerning. there was no way for the two of you to reach anyone outside of this tiny room. the only way out was this door, which was locked tight. you were stuck in here…

“and… how long have you been trying to get the door open now?”

“i woke up a couple minutes before you. i haven't been at it for too long. but it doesn't look good…”

“then let me have a look!”

you carefully squeezed past ryuki, to get a better look at the door. but after a short inspection, you realized there was nothing you could do. the screws couldn't be loosened without any tools, the keyhole was one that could only be used from the outside and there wasn't any space underneath the door to squeeze anything through. the only way through that door was brute force.

“okay, we'll just… have to break it open–!”

you sounded rather enthusiastic. working at ABIS, you had always wanted to kick open a door. all the detectives in movies got to do that. surely, it couldn't be that hard. especially if ryuki and you worked together!

“alright… then let's try it–!”

ryuki and you threw yourself against the door. you kicked and punched the door, both at the same time, as well as one at a time. but in the end, you got to find out the hard way that it really was that hard. whatever the doors in detective movies were made of, this door was much sturdier!

“it's pointless… we're going to die in here…”

just minutes ago, you were so enthusiastic about opening that door. but now you were worn out and any motivation you had before had vanished. you had given up completely, as you sunk to the floor.

“well… it could be worse–!”

ryuki sunk down next to you, trying to cheer you up a little. and at the very least, you huffed amused.

“how could this be worse?”

“well… at least i'm with you, you know?”

a small smile hushed over your lips, as you turned towards ryuki.

“i'm glad i'm stuck with you too, ryuki~”

you gently bumped your shoulder against his. ryuki smiled too and the two of you sat in silence for another moment, before ryuki broke the silence.

“i-if i don't make it out of here–”

“woah, stop right there!”

you sat straight up and turned to ryuki. he awkwardly tried to avoid eye contact with you, as you put your hands on his shoulders.

“don't even think like that, okay?”

“n-no, that– it's not like that–! please, just listen to me, okay?”

you nodded reluctantly. ryuki took a deep breath, before he sat up too and looked you in the eyes.

“if i don't make it out of here, i know there's one thing i'd really regret not telling you. and– well, now seems to be the best time to tell you that… i love you!”

suddenly, you were happy there was barely any light in that small room. otherwise ryuki would've noticed the blush on your cheeks as he confessed to you.

“i love you too, ryuki~” you whispered softly. “i kind of wish i could've said it somewhere more romantic though…”

the two of you chuckled softly, before ryuki began to lean in, a hand caressing your cheek.

“w-well… if you close your eyes, you can imagine a more romantic place…!”

he was trying to be smooth, to make up an excuse to kiss you. but it worked and you closed your eyes, before slowly leaning in, until your lips met. it was a soft kiss at first, but one filled with much passion. it felt like this could not only be your first kiss, but last one too.

but then, out of nowhere, the door to your small room swung open, not only interrupting your kiss, but blinding you with the sudden light, after such a long time in the dark.

“ooh, look who's making out there! boss, come see this–!”

“idiot, you should've waited before opening the door! the plan wasn't to interrupt their confession–!”

it was too bright to see who was talking, but ryuki and you soon recognized those voices. and perhaps knowing who they were only made you angrier.

“MISTER DATE–!?”

“MIZUKI–!?”

ryuki and you cried out in unison. your ‘kidnappers’ were none other than your friends and colleagues. and as you began to get used to the light and saw them standing there, you spotted boss along them.

“w-what the hell are you three doing here!?”

ryuki and you quickly got up on your feet, leaving that tiny room, only to realize you had been within ABIS headquarters all along. and as you looked back on the room, the words ‘janitor's closet’ were written on the door.

“oh, we just happened to come by when you were locked in this room and decided to free you~!”

date tried to act all innocent, but after receiving a smack on the back of his head from you, he whined, before giving a proper response.

“ouch–! fine, we locked you in here! but it was all mizuki's idea–!”

“you were the one who locked them in here–! i just said that we should do something to help them get together! i couldn't stand to see them being all awkward around each other anymore…”

mizuki and date began to bicker, pointing fingers at each other and raising their voices. hearing pieces of their conversation, you slowly began to piece everything together.

date, mizuki and boss had locked you in here, after being fed up by the two of you not acting on your crush on each other. hoping that you'd confess in a life or death situation, they faked one together. and their stupid plan seems to have worked on you…

you raised an eyebrow, stopping after just a few sentences.

"you are none of those things! this isn't actually you, date. you're just listing those things because you're desperate to get some matches"

"hey, that's not true! i already got tons of matches!"

date huffed at you, visibly offended that you thought he wouldn't have any women interested in him. however, you were actually spot on…

"just change your profile… seriously, you'll have more luck with women if you're honest! i for one like the real you more than this fabricated version of yourself…"

"wait… you like me? and here i was, thinking you found me annoying~"

date had a goofy smile on his lips, happy to hear that you actually enjoyed his company.

"i do… and hey, if you change your profile, i might even be willing to swipe right on you~"
